  • My install went well, to the point where I was certain I must have missed some steps. I'm going to test some static page hosting on it too. If all goes well it will be my choice for basic web hosting going forward.

  • Any suggestions? I'm currently playing with fish. Works well on the desktop, but I've tried a couple of android clients and it seems to cause display issues.

  • Coming from Linux, primarily bash. The extensibility of zsh has me interested. I'm not likely do to a lot of scripting, I'm really looking for a way to efficiently enter commands from a mobile devicee

  • With my installationof Sogo, lighthttpd, and mysql, is 5.4GB. This jail is based on 14.4

  • It's been working well for me. I did settle on thick jails for building a groupware server, and rdp server. They seemed to be work better for the more complex set-ups.

  • Is this for home lab stuff, or are you using them for production?

  • I'd agree it's most likely the cooler, but I've seen odd instances of a faulty motherboard or the motherboard being screwed too tightly to the case causing flexing and/or shorts.

  • The install from source is just too slow imo. Going to tackle again, but install sogo and dependencies directly. I'll lose the nice admin panel that attracted me to iredmail, but I suspect this will work better overall.

  • I will say thus far, there's been some minor issues with the install. They're documentation for installing in a jail is based upon ezjail which doesn't seem to have been updated in years. Secondly, I've found that I've had less install issues using a thick jail within cloned ports and source. Finally, install has been much slower than expected as it's installing from source. I plan to see it through to the end to test management, but will likely be testing other options. Likely nextcloud or Sogo directly.

  • I'm currently playing with bastille for my home lab. Definitely my favorite method vs built-in or appjail thus far.

  • Perhaps give https://midnightbsd.org/ a try. I haven't personally used it, but as I understand it's desktop oriented and may be a good way to ease in (so to speak).

  • So I decided to switch to bastille to manage my jails. I found it's syntax and documentation to be cleaner.

  • A pi can definitely be used, but you may get much better performance for a similar price getting a refurbished pc, adding a second nic, and installing something like opnsense.

  • It's the 24 hour wait portion that makes me continue to think Google is not acting in good faith. Any or all of the following steps - hiding it behind developer options, a warning about being coached, and even the restart to disconnect any live sessions, I could buy as reasonable efforts to protect people. 24 hours is ridiculous though. They also didn't seem to address what happens if you factory reset your phone or get a new one. Would it be a days wait each time? A lot of us will be fine with adb during that time period, but an "intermediate" user who likes f-droid but isn't comfortable with the adb command line shouldn't have to wait a day to install their apps.

  • I'm currently playing with it in my home lab, specifically to re-familiarize myself with jails. It's always nice to be reminded just how stable and flexible it is. Also, its documentation is top notch. Having the handbook directly on their site is something I've yet to see matched by any other major OS.

  • I'm going to be testing XigmaNAS. If I'm not crazy about it I'll likely just run a pure install of FreeBSD

  • I'd love to know who deemed adding more clicks to get to features an improvement.
