  • Another project collecting GTFS feeds is transit.land. You can find a lot of non-Western countries there: https://www.transit.land/places

The point is, nowadays everywhere in the world they already use some software for the management of public transport. It would help more if you would write to the local public transport companies and ask them to publish their timetables in the standard, machine readable format.

  • The workflow of creating bus routes is very similar to what you discribe in JOSM.

Personal opinion: I think we shouldn't map bus routes manually for multiple reasons:

    • Modern public transport companies publish their GTFS feeds usually with a compatible license. There are projects going on to import them to OSM or to combine them in end user applications. There are a lot of usable examples for the latter already, e.g. https://transitous.org/
    • They are hard to verify on the ground, you have to travel on the bus in question to make sure it actually uses that street, not the next one, if there is no bus stop nearby.
    • Long relations are prone to bork themself. Just check the invalid bus routes on osmi, most of them have a gap, they are hard to fix and maintain. Just zoom in anywhere: https://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=pubtrans_routes&lon=16.33692&lat=39.75409&zoom=2&baselayer=Geofabrik+Standard&overlays=ptv2_routes_invalid%2Cptv2_error_ways%2Cptv2_error_nodes copy patste the link if it's not working: https://tools.geofabrik.de/osmi/?view=pubtrans_routes&lon=16.33692&lat=39.75409&zoom=2&baselayer=Geofabrik+Standard&overlays=ptv2_routes_invalid%2Cptv2_error_ways%2Cptv2_error_nodes
  • So you are sitting in an airgapped server room. On a Saturday. And you don't know what kind of macros you will use there in the future. Because you can do a lot of unexpected things on an airgapped server, you specifically bought a high end keyboard for that.

I mean, yeah, it's annoying that it needs internet, and obviously everything will go south at the worst moment, but putting together all your scenarios as a single situation is a bit unexpected, sounds like an xkcd 1172 workflow.

  • My keyboard saves its config to its internal memory. So you can configure it on a connected device then bring it to the airgapped server room, it will remember your macros. Launcher is needed only for initial configuration, you don't have to open it ever later.

Btw have you looked into alternative methods? I could upgrade the firmware offline, without the app. I had to switch it to an upgrade mode with some combo, then it was recognised as an usb drive. Copied the firmware to the "drive" and it updated. Are you sure no similar method exists for programming?

  • I had a Logitech K750 for more than a decade, and finally died last year. I wanted to buy whatever the current wireless Logitech with scissor mechanism, but Logitech dropped support for my native language: I need a keyboard with Hungarian QWERTZ layout. On their new keyboards they just get the English ISO and add the local characters as stickers! But they don't cover the English character but add the local next to it. This is how it looks on a 100€+ keyboard:

Notice the double parenthesis: on this layout parenthesis are shift+8-9, but on English is shift+9-0

By comparison this is how it looks like on a Keychron B6 Pro, the one I bought instead:

  • Hardware @lemmy.world

Keychron just shared the CAD files for all their keyboards and mice!

  • Why do you need services at all? Just start each program when you need it. Shell is bloat.

  • Something is off with that photo, but I can't pinpoint what.

It's not AI, the tram is correct it's an AnsaldoBreda (Hitachi) Sirio

  • What is n8n?

  • It's an old reconstruction, recent excavations couldn't find any traces of a permanent bridge. They found some Roman remains in the riverbed in the 19th century, but modern scolars think they were part of a port or maybe a temporary bridge. The Danube freezes here on cold winters, Romans couldn't build that strong piers.

  • Not really IDM, and the description says it was released in 2021

  • What is this bright thing at the center? Reflection of an interior light as it was taken through a window? Or what?

  • It's 22:24 UTC today

  • There was an update when they disabled a lot of cities for some reason. I remember I could use it in my city, but now it's not supported...

I haven't heard about Bimba before, @dafunkkk@lemmy.world recommended here, it seems it has better coverage.

  • It's called OpenStreetMap, the last character is P, it's singular.

For reviews there are multiple ongoing projects, none of them is mature enough for everyday use, they have a very few content:

There was a long and very interesting thread about this last year on the osm forum: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/a-crowd-sourced-review-service-for-openstreetmap/136235/24

For timetables, it's an existing standard called GTFS, public transport companies should publish their timetables in this format. Transportr is a mature app which supports a lot of companies and cities: https://transportr.app/

CoMaps (a better fork of OrganicMaps) already have a lot of issues about integrating GTFS feeds, e.g. https://codeberg.org/comaps/comaps/issues/1651
