Yeah, could just be a political move to try and show the US you can do shit without them. Still, good move. I hope you can get one. My wife and I have BYDs, have had them for 3 years, no complaints whatsoever.
Thanks for the tip. I guess I'll dive into eBay and see what I can find. I want 2 Linux tablets, 1 for myself (reading comics and books since I jumped the Kindle ship long ago, watching my Jellyfin library on the couch, etc),and one to put on the wall as a central command center for my Home assistant.
I really appreciate it, because I did let my hate for Microsoft keep me from ever looking in that direction. Thanks so much bud.
I have a 3 years old System76 Gazelle with an i7 running CachyOS and at the office, also running CachyOS, a Venus UM773 Minisforum with a Ryzen 7735HS.
I had one of these about 10 years ago. Pretty nice little things. However, since moving to Linux exclusively 8 years ago, I don't miss them at all. Plus, with all the publicly facing bullshit from Microsoft, it blows my kind that people will still spend money on this. Not an Apple fan either, but you can get a very powerful Mac for the sake money.
Just like with proprietary software, there's amazingly dependable FOSS software, and there's garbage. In my experience FOSS is much more reliable when compared to it's proprietary counterparts, with very few exceptions. Seems to me that you've been dealing with the wrong FOSS projects.
Yeah, no, I totally get it. It just blows that people just bends over like this for all the corpo bullshit, users, devs and other companies alike. I have a small business with my wife, and I try to run as much as humanly possible on open source software. I donate to the platforms we use, and for almost 3 years we've gotten away with not giving any money to Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Apple or any of the other tech giants. It is a Titanic task to keep everything running, for sure, but absolutely worth it. My point is that, if we can do it being so small and barely profitable, I can't imagine larger companies having an issue with moving away from these predatory practices. Then again, I'm not fully aware of what other businesses might require that we can live without comfortably.
For a menu to take longer than 200ms is ridiculous. At 500ms of wait for my menu to show, the OS is getting nuked.
As for the 'inspire confidence',when was the last time MS inspired anything that was not disgust? Excluding the C-suite and some investors, of course.
