  • I use xfce and i like it so far, though it would be good if i could increase the minimize/maximize/tray toolbar's size

  • A lot of things are easier to do even for experts with gui, as you might need to type 30 lines for what you could do in 1-2 clicks

  • EDIT: Thank you for all tips, it has been solved. The solution was to reinstall nvidia drivers, reboot, and force umu proton for the game. pls share, so others can solve it more quickly

  • no, Garuda doesn't have this by default, i had to set up prime

  • i had to reinstall nvidia drivers, no need to recompile the kernel. if you are thinking about mkinitcpio -P, that is not allowed in Garuda

  • i solved it by creating a symlink with prime-run steam, which i heard forces the use of dedicated gpu

  • It says latest gpu setup attempt failed at Xorg pre-start hook Here is the log:

  • Linux Gaming @lemmy.world

No Man's Sky crashes at Havok screen, protondb says my driver doesn't meet the minimum requirements to run proton. How can i fix these? or garuda xfce paired with gtx 1650 is not suitable for gaming?

  • Linux Gaming @lemmy.ml

No Man's Sky gets stuck on Havok logo and crashes, then protondb says that my driver doesn't meet the minimal requirements to run proton (i have a gtx 1650, updated every driver just now)

  • Hackintosh is still an optiom

  • Steam's primary platform is Linux wdym

  • Isn't firmware flashed with JTAG or from bios from a pendrive?

  • Wsl is a piece of joke, like seriously why. If you want an actual linux, install it on bare metal. If you want to try out, then virtualbox. If you need a good integration with the system with native performance, Termux. WSL works with hyperv which is hard to set up and breaks all the time, plus you are forced to use microsoft's kernel which is riddled with who knows what. Plus wsl consumes insane amount of space. I don't think we really need this to windows, it was just a desperate attempt from microsoft to get sympathy from Linux users, but they didn't convice me with this trashpile

  • I agree, dualboot is something you shouldn't even attempt between linux and windows on the same drive. With some time, one, or both systems will totally break

  • For audio editing, you don't need windows, neither linux, that's still the best on mac, but you need to be filthy rich

  • Only thing are my files, that are pretty tricky to transfer securely while maintaining compatibility (i dualboot)

  • Different distros ship updates in different pace and optimized for various use cases

  • Make sure you choose an arch-based distro, you need the latest features, fixes for nvidia. I dualboot garuda and windows 11, and garuda has better performance on a slower ssd. They recently released a new major release

  • I just wrote something similiar in js

  • There are emoji selectors for linux. But i don't use emojis on a desktop os

  • Programming @programming.dev

How am i supposed to learn C# ?

  • linux4noobs @programming.dev

Linux for a 2006 Asus laptop

Which kind of hardware (used computer/single-board computer/dedicated server machine/NAS/something else) and operating system do you recommend for a home server like this?
