  • Yea this is what has likely happened to me, just haven't got the email about it. Then I was thinking: If I never heard any news about the price hike (which I didn't) it would be good if I got an actual email from Bitwarden - perhaps when they decided the price would be higher, therefore I could actually choose to stay with them or have time to research other options

  • Great to hear. One thing I liked about Bitwarden is that you change choose Aegon2id and its KDF iterations, etc. Is that standard? Can you do that in keepass?

    • A company with closed communication, and still asks to be trusted at the end
    • A company having open, transparent communication

  • I think I am understanding you, yes, you can only message those who have moved or download those apps to speak with you.

    For me, it was that simple. In my situation, I asked my friends at the time to download Signal -- they didnt even want to download that. Only the closest to me ended up doing that. It turns out I am no longer friends with anyone who wasn't using whatever I was using, so I have no need to go back to that. I never will even if I am asked. I'd rather even email lol.

    So, anways I'm not saying necessarily there is any correlation between a true friend and someone who does not move apps with you. But I am also not not saying that.

  • yeah, Signal is a tricky one for me. I used to use it for a long time, but never felt really safe and comfortable with the whole thing. I'm not entirely sure why, perhaps because the features did not match the money it would take to build something like they have (as in, dayum this is free?.. why is it free..). Naturally people called this a honeypot from a government - but the app in opensource and auditable, right? Signal still doesn't feel right to me, here is the only stories I know beyond my own feelings that make it sus:

    • for a long time you had to sign up with a phone number. There are usernames now, I am unsure if you still require a phone number in order to sign up
    • there was this big drama over a very, very long-standing vulnerability regarding the desktop version of signal. Pretty big exploit imo. Only after it gained traction, Signal dev said they would fix it, CEO doubled down saying it was not a big issue. Unsure if it's fixed now or not
    • Someone from a reputable Software Auditing company was blocked on twitter and github by Signal. Major red flag lol

    However if you don't feel the same way and still want to use Signal with some extra peace of mind, there is always the Signal fork "Molly".

    I moved to Session, which has lots it funding RIP and will be closing down soon. For now, I'm using Element and it's going great so far.

  • Unsure what you mean by polemic in this context. Personally I use Mullvad VPN. Good reputation, fair pricing, you do not need an email (u actually cant provide an email for an account) There was that thing where they were raided by Authorities and nothing was found because they do not keep logs. I also like that they have a "Why Privacy Matters" information on their website. Their blogs are interesting https://mullvad.net/en/blog

  • I am looking at aliasvault.net or keepassxc. Vaultwarden I'm not super interested in either as one of its big developers works at Bitwarden, they could be pressured to stop working on it etc. Potential conflict of interest
