  • They are missing one serious thing, taking Monero for payments.

  • My ISP gives me my own IPv6, and I have shared IPv4 with CGNAT, but unfortunately, they can't assign me a static v6, so that I can have servers and stuff. So I just do things like that over Tor. Though things like Tor need work as well, because you're not able to have a Tor relay on IPv6. You need V4 for that.

  • Oh thats cool. So we have this for Ubuntu Touch, and we have Meshy for PostmarketOS which is a meshcore app

  • The main project of meshcore is open, and the meshcore-open app is open, but you do have to be careful because there are some firmware variants for devices such as the TDECK that are not open.

As long as I'm capable of using it in a completely open way, I'm fine with it. I just don't have to touch the proprietary bits.

  • I'd say the only thing wrong with this is that they explicitly said that the Liam Cottle app is the official app, even though it's closed source proprietary shitware, and I personally will not touch it due to the fact that meshcore-open exists. Quite frankly, Andy can go get fucked. I never did care for his better-than-thou attitude.

  • They did put out that the official app was the Liam Cottle one which is closed source and so I won't use that particular app because I don't use closed source software when I can avoid it. The only one I'll use is meshcore-open. Quite frankly, Andy can go get fucked. I never did care for his better-than-thou attitude.

  • It was one of those Neo Banks called Chime.

  • I lived in a very rural area and we had dial-up until 2010, so I had specific times where I could get on the internet because it wouldn't interfere with telephone calls.

  • At this point I refused to use a bank app and I actually switched banks because my bank wouldn't allow me to use a web browser.

  • Have you looked at visible? It's a Verizon MVNO that has pretty good prices. If privacy is what you want though, you might have a look at something like Cloaked Wireless since you can pay your phone bill with Monero. I just switched to them for that exact reason myself.

  • I was actually looking into this a little bit recently and it turns out the Voyager spacecraft launched with 23 watt radio transmitters but at the distance it takes a 72 meter dish to capture the signal and at its capture it is one attowatt. I don't remember my system right offhand, but it's something like a billionth of a billionth of a watt. It's stupidly small.

  • Yes, although we have ion thrusters now, so theoretically we could use something like that to get something going very fast over a long time. A little acceleration constantly over a long time goes a long way.

  • You have two options. Either put Linux on it and run Windows in a virtual machine, or buy a second laptop that you only use for work. Because if your university requires monitoring spyware, then you don't need to be working and doing your studies on the same device.

You do personal stuff on a personal machine. You do work stuff on a work machine. And you do educational stuff on an educational machine. If you don't want to buy three physical machines, then VMs are your next best bet.

  • I think this means that meshtastic and meshcore flashers will be usable in Firefox now.

  • These are audio podcasts, not video, and it did work. Mind you, I couldn't have anything else going at the same time, but it did actually work.

  • 400kbit/s is surprisingly usable. I'm able to use my podcast app at 1.25x on 256kbit/s so with near double that i'm sure I could use it on my standard 1.6x that I like to use.

  • Oneplus nord n200 the device was released in 2021, but I purchased it brand new in the box in 2023. So I've had it for three years, although it's a five-year-old device.

  • That idea of a 5% discount doesn't sound like such a bad idea.
