[Unknown] First-person walking sim set in Asia
[Unknown] First-person walking sim set in Asia
Platform(s): Steam
Genre: Walking sim/mystery/exploration
Estimated year of release: Sometime in the last 10 years
Graphics/art style: Realistic graphics, in first-person, quite good looking despite being an indie game, it's possible that it's set in the 1980s or something like that, I remember a parked vehicle looking like it was from that period, but I might be wrong.
Notable characters: Just the player character, but I don't know anything about him.
Notable gameplay mechanics: There's a minigame vending machine kinda thing that takes tokens or coins that you find around the game world, and I think it rewards you if you're successful, I don't recall much about it other than it did involve skill and I found it kinda finicky/frustrating because I wasn't able to use the few coins/tokens I had to complete the challenge.
Other details: I played the demo during one of the Steam Next Fest events, but it was quite a few years ago at this point, and I can't find any trace of it in my account. It felt like maybe a one-person-project, or a small indie project at most. It was almost certainly made by an Asian developer, and I'm not even entirely sure if it had English localisation (probably did).
If I remember correctly, there was a payphone outside the grounds of the house (possibly a garage?). The playable area seemed to be restricted to a couple of buildings and a car park with a high wall and chain link fence.
Assuming I'm not muddling this game up with another, I believe you're visiting the home of your parents or something, but no one's home and so you go searching around the place.
For some reason, I'm leaning towards it being set in Korea. I don't know why, there's a vague memory of me recognising the distinctive squared calligraphy of the written script. I don't speak any Asian languages but I can tell the difference between Korean and, say, Japanese, just by the shapes. But I wouldn't put too much stock in that detail, could be way off the mark!
Thanks for your help! 👍
