Saskatchewan's NDP Opposition is raising concerns about the government's preparations for the upcoming wildfire season.

An independent review of the 2025 wildfire season has been delayed until the end of spring while the NDP say they recently learned two of the province's water bombers will be unavailable until July.

"The first step in solving any problem is realizing there is one, and the problem that the Saskatchewan Party government has is they haven't looked into their own problems," Jordan McPhail, the NDP's critic for northern affairs, said on Thursday.

McPhail spent part of question period calling for the province to release the independent report by MNP, a request that was almost immediately rejected by Minister of Community Safety Michael Weger.

McPhail said that is not good enough, especially after last year's season, when more than 500 fires burned nearly three million hectares.
