Off to a non-US instance. Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.

  • Too lazy to bother with proper research, but considering how big these companies are, asking your favorite LLM How many people work at Meta and Amazon combined? will yield about 1.5M people (+/- the usual yearly thousands of layofss/new hires).

  • Lack of search is my biggest gripe with Mastodon.

I follow hashtags, it's how i discover interesting content for me. I only use the search function to follow specific accounts.

  • we are all owners of it ourselves.

Not unless you run your own instance you aren't.

  • As long as mutable distros remain an option

Precisely this, linux is about choice. It's not like suddenly most distros would change init systems and make it near impossible to choose... oh, wait...I prefer mutable and see immutable mostly as lazyness but if people wanna use'em go for it, i'm not pushing mutable down their throats.

  • Surprised pikachu face.

  • Cloudflare, Netflix, Microsoft, OpenAI as speakers? Plus a bunch of politicians?

  • It's not an actual bedroom, is it?Then again, the pictures clearly show it, so...

Any alternative to this site that's more in line with privacy/foss/fediverse etc? CouchSurfing's gone to shit, used to be great.

  • The blog part: create an .onion or .i2p site. Or create a site elsewhere but always do any related tasks through Tor at the very least (including account creation and email usage). Not so sure about the mailing list part.

  • perfect mathematical harmony = engineered, the aliens did it, obviously

  • +1 for Contact and A moon is a harsh mistress.

  • Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars is pretty hard-scifi.Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space not so much but very entertaining.Edit: for light reading Stross's Saturns Children is fun.

  • I doubt Siri eavesdropping was a bug.

  • This implies they live in an area that requires it.

An area of which country? It's pretty damn in context if you ask me and the answers may vary wildly by country.

  • Such as?

  • What are you on about? 225 is not a leap year.

  • Have you checked it the banks in your country offer virtual credit cards? Secure, albeit not private (but neither are Revolut or N26).

  • Aren't there XMR-based gift cards?

  • I mean, this is explicitly illegal.

    In which jurisdiction?
