Indie game developer 🇨🇦

Working on some games for game jams in my free time

Admin of programming.dev and frontend developer for sublinks

Account has automation for some scheduled posts

Site: https://ategon.dev/ Socials: https://ategon.carrd.co/

  • Might be something to do with 0.19, Seems like same is true across my mastodon instances. Assume that would be a bug with lemmy

  • Anyone's free to comment here. Meta decisions apply to any users of the instance regardless of where your account is hosted

Hexbear we are federated with but its a half federation where a bunch of their communities have been hidden by default in all of the feeds (including the community youre referring to). Usually things are fine with them interacting in the threads here locally and we haven't had any issues due to it being a specific niche

(Theres out of instance stuff but that should be up to that instance to handle them)

Also going to try to get a better instance block in at some point that allows people to block users if they want that level of control rather than just the communities. Just want these sorts of things to be determinable at the user level rather than instance level defederations since ultimately things are mostly fine

  • For the first paragraph: year fair. I'll likely do some more additions to our admin guidelines for expected conduct on non admin accounts and I can do a general expected conduct when participating in the instance (for all instance users) for behaviors that anyone shouldn't do regardless of whether they're an admin or not. Can add that to the support site im making

Most of the pronoun situation just stems from discrepancies in different frontends where the "main" frontend shows it but most people are on mobile apps that don't show it leading to people assuming visibility when that isnt the case. In your second paragraph people who don't realize the discrepancy in these frontends may think they're making it clear as you say

But yeah overall things in the conversation wasnt done maliciously and was able to be resolved fine

There was some other branches other than the pronoun situation although that was one of the main ones pointed out to me for defederation reasons

  • There is a distinguish option that adds a shield but its a bit redundant since it marks you with the flairs anyways

Only way to really get around it for now is the multiple accounts

  • hey im one of the lead admins of programming.dev

ive been talking with ada + the other admins privately and im drafting up an announcement right now for the instance but just wanted to give a little response here since it targets the users of the instance a bit

snowe sent a message apoligizing to ada and weve been getting things set up so this kind of thing cant happen again. The people in my instance havent really been doing anything in the thread (the ones that have have been relatively respectful about it) (havent seen the things you said in there by them). The hexbear comments wouldnt make sense anyways since we federate with hexbear (in a limited mode where some of their communities are hidden but still).

Im aiming to get this resolved and just want to ask to please not escalate the situation and throw instances against each other while it gets handled

  • Yep, I can update that maybe later today. Was waiting until I get them all up but can do the first 3 while I deal with mlmym

  • You might need to hard refresh with ctrl f5

  • Looks like it was struggling to get an image from lemmy.antemeridiem.xyz

I added a timeout on community icon loading so itll just continue after two seconds of not getting the image and yours works now

  • Change has been pushed

  • ill check it out and try to fix it

  • Sure I can push an update with that

  • Seeing what people voted for isn't public in the api (cant even get that from someone being logged in). Only posts & comments made for non login info

  • what was broken about the site

no css? or did it not load

  • yeah people who have been here for longer might have not accurate stats to only the year since I cant get an actual year range of the things I request

itll pull from your entire lemmy history but for most people that will be within the last year

  • Usually doesn't change except if I do balance patches or it gets more data

Did a slight change to make adventurer 9 sites instead of 8 but that doesn't affect you here

The top %s are based on the people that have currently requested their recap. Of those it just got more than 1000 so it will start to put people into legend now and will change who's in there based on who requests it (e.g. if someone has 2600 comments they'll now be the legend position)

Explorer and adventurer has the next highest priority after legend (and the other ranks with legend im not spoiling), then vanguard & wizard, then the rest

  • Looks like lemmy.ml is throwing 403s when I try to access images from it. Handled the case and it should work now

  • Yeah sure I can push out a quick update to do that

edit: done. Also tweaked weights a bit since adventurer was way too common

  • Heres my results, primarily around the gamedev section of the instance and here

  • Ill start off with sharing my results. Top communities is dominated by programming.dev since thats what im the admin of
