  • Yeah crunch in gamedev tends to be pretty bad. (Although there's also fun crunch in gamejams I bring upon myself but thats less of a job)

    The game industry in general is something I'm likely going to avoid for a primary job due to low pay and stress and just be something I do as a hobby. Been enjoying doing web dev in internships

  • The issue is theres a large amount of things admins can do and you might not want to let people in charge of doing one task have access to something else

    E.g. you can have people only for application accepting and not let them edit the instance itself or communities, or only community management and can't do things like defederate from other instances

    Its more complicated than just an admin role but it shouldn't matter for people other than admins that its a mechanic

    Instances can make as many roles as they want so they can just have admin if they want though but this lets them make them as needed

  • yeah should hopefully calm down tomorrow now that the initial jump is done and since youre doing it relative to what the values used to be so the values themselves shouldnt matter

    there might still be spikes from dead communities suddenly getting activity (since the increase from 0 is much larger those communities would go to the top of the list. Could artificially decrease large active user changes from the instance by taking the square root of the percent instead of the actual percent for percents above 100% (1) or something)

    Taking into account votes is going to be how the active users is handled for any instances running pangora (lemmy fork)

    Viewing the instance communities from another instance thats just using lemmy will show the old stats if needed though

  • Gif seems to have broken with the visuals cause it cant handle the gradient but the functionality is visible

  • thats due to me seeding it in other instances. In order for a community to show posts in an instance it needs to be subscribed to by one user in the instance so theres 1 account in 26 instances (some seem to be erroring rn though) that all sub to it

  • Well it reached the threshold even though it was a bit more contested so there does seem to be interest

    And content that would be posted is different enough from dotnet in the same sense c# is different from dotnet. + Theres a community on mastodon for post creators

    I would be willing to make it but with the same way gamedev is currently handled where its strongly recommended to crosspost posts to dotnet

  • I realized I cant check other instances individually with my stat system so I just took the average from all instances

    for all communities that are visible to the instance 61% are dead so our instance is doing better than average

  • Probably a larger amount considering other instances don't have a limiter for community creation so get a bunch more

  • Ive been finding the link between backend and frontend is fine for me to make frontend features pretty easily so dont know what improvements can be made on that front. This main things hindering development for me is the fact the backend is in rust which this is the first time im using it for a project and theres some niche things I want for certain features that need to be developed in the backend (being able to query for posts from multiple communities at once, having things in the modlog not be in separate categories and instead be returned together, etc.)

  • how the multiple communities works currently is it just queries for posts in all of the communities separately

    This follows the default of a limit of 50 posts for a page of posts in the post feed so will get 50 from each of them

    cant really fix it without touching the backend since i dont know how many communities are valid for splitting the limit between them

  • This update also broke light theme even more since ive been primarily developing with it in dark theme. Next update ill try to improve it

    Ive added a show more/show less button for the sidebar community lists. They show 5 communities by default and when expanded they instead show 10
