  • Great article! Thanks! Couldn’t agree more that the age verification moves (Zero-knowledge or not) are bad news for everyone’s privacy. It is certainly a tool for constructing infrastructure to control the internet beyond “protecting children”.

  • Haha, those would be my kind of co-workers, but the kind of work we do requires a background and degree in electrical engineering and power systems. Although, I have been moving away from this in my career in the conventional sense. I want to do dev stuff and networking stuff, that’s where the fun is! They recently gave me an opportunity to help program and configure all the networking and automation equipment for a substation, been learning a lot and feeling like my tinkering with homelab stuff is finally paying off in some way lol.

  • My spouse and I work for a contractor that is having trouble hiring experienced people like us, so they have been hiring fresh grads outta school. There is a limited pool of experience here, so when management throws a fit one of us is overloaded or gets sick and can’t meet the budget or deadline, it ends with nothing because they can’t afford to lose us. We work on the power grid and it’s a relatively small pool of engineers doing the work we do. Also, I’m rocking two work laptops with a home setup of 4 monitors and an office setup of 3, but still feel pretty important!

  • Oops, my comment might not have been clear. You are onto what I was meaning. My spouse and I share a Spotify Duo account that was linked to our Facebooks until recently when I deleted mine. Spouse still has hers linked. We have been paying subscribers for years now, so I was wondering if that combined with having a billing address on file would be enough to avoid age verification. We aren’t trying to access mature content, but I don’t want to have to delete my account to avoid uploading a facial scan or government ID to anyone lol.

  • Can confirm, I’m an electrical engineer working on a power substation supplying power to a future datacenter (not sure if an Ai project, there’s more that one). Let’s just say, money is no issue, commissioning schedule and functionality are their priorities.

  • I’m a protective relay settings engineer at a contractor for lots of power companies. I’m dipping my toes into my first substation automation project. Getting to design the device native files, IPs, and other networking parts from the drawings package of site and device manuals. It’s all SEL equipment with a gateway at the top and local powerWAN, RTAC, annunciators, and relays below. I live thousands of miles from the site, so local testing would be challenging but probably have to fly or something lol. I have been doing some research on how to emulate this is a lab setting when all you have is the RTAC and some relays. Is this something SCADA engineers have to do sometimes? Like if you need to test a scheme when you can’t build it physically first?

  • My company wouldn’t let me access our GitHub for work projects (different department), so I made a private ForgeJo server at home and can tunnel in via Tailscale when away from home. (Decided not open ports and self-host a proxy for now). It worked perfectly and I believe ForgeJo is fantastic! I think Fedora started using them too.
