They need to do what Europe did and teach people that quality of life is about work-life balance and good public services, not about grinding and buying cheap shit in big quantities. People will not start cooking their meals because of warning labels. They will start cooking when they have enough time and money for it.
So where you live doctors just let people suffer/die if they don't like them and it's ok? You don't have any oversight, expert panels, ethics boards, investigations? That's wild.
Ok, so let's hope that the supreme court agrees with you and draws the line at taxi drivers. Because today they let photographers discriminate you and tomorrow they can decide that the rules for doctors are unconstitutional.
Cool but where do you draw the line? If a taxi driver refuses to drive you is it still fine? What if a teacher refuses to teach your children? Or if a doctor refuses to treat you?
What? The post says 'thwarted initiatives meant to improve the well-being of teens'. You're jumping out with Myanmar and I'm the one moving goalposts? Delusional much?
I'm definitely old enough to remember it, I just never used it. But maybe you're right. I remember the early youtube, before google took it over and yeah, it was very different. I'm just not sure if it turned in what it is today because evil corporations monetized it or because people are just stupid assholes. Probably little bit of column A, a little bit of column B.
Sure, it's also just my intuition but trying to lose weight myself and watching friends try to lose weight and 15 minutes of light activity per day does nothing to your energy balance. To actually use weight I have to cycle hours spending like 2000kcal couple times a week. The 100kcal is 5% of your average daily intake. If you're very active it will even less. Depending on your diet you can excrete more calories then that. Your body will just compensate by adjusting metabolism and you will not have to eat more not to lose weight. With electric bike it's definitely possible to get in the range when you will have to adjust your diet but I don't think it's the case with brooming. Average person will be able to swipe couple days a week without actually eating more, that's why I think it's 'free'. But maybe we have to do some experiments. Do you have a broom?
Worked fine in what sense? Teen weren't getting getting depressed from watching perfect, fake lives posted by influencers? They weren't bullied? I doubt it.
I mean, you're right, you can make social networks less toxic but in the end the entire concept is just silly, useless and harmful. The only way to win is not to play.
How would you adjust it? The whole concept of 'social networks' is just posting your life for everyone to view and expecting some validation/confirmation. I don't think algorithm can change that. There's plenty of other platforms/tools already where you can.. you know, do other things like read news, post comments anonymously, play games and stuff. People who post selfies on instagram specifically want to be judged by other people. I don't think there's a healthy way to do it.
government bodies being incompetent at protecting the victims, then.
My guess is that it's just more difficult to control prostitution than it is to control construction work. Construction happens in the open, you need to get tons of permits, multiple companies are involved, inspectors check everything regularly. It would be difficult to force some people to work on a construction site without anyone realizing. But how are you going to make sure that each sexual intercourse in some strip bar is 'legal'? Are you going to put inspectors in bathroom stalls? How can you check every cash transaction? It's pretty much impossible. You can monitor the sex work that's advertised and happening 'in the open' but there will always be some grey and black market for it. And the ugly stuff will happen there.
Meh. Other than shutting it down I don't think there's much Meta could do to help teens. The entire model of posting up your fake life online for everyone to see is bad, with or without beauty filters or notifications. Sounds like he objected to some empty initiatives that were more about PR than actually helping anyone.
It clearly says 'industrial' robot. You shouldn't be anywhere near operating industrial robots. I'm pretty sure this guy simply broke safety rules. All the robots working close to humans are purposefully designed in a way that limits their strength. If this company was doing something else they it was simply doing it wrong. This is not what 'AI robots' are about.
And I'm not saying that AI robots replacing people are a good thing when done right. Just that this is not it.
WhatsApp original business plan was 'use the app fro free for a year and than pay $1 per year'. I wouldn't mind paying $1 per year for for an app without adds and respecting my privacy.
