    And

    Until a quorum appears, should the roll call fail to show one present, no business shall be transacted, except to compel the attendance of absent members or to adjourn. It shall not be in order to recess under a call of the house.

    It does not require a quorum, it is a measure voted on by those present. This is the same thing in lots of State legislatures including the US House. There's usually a rule that allows whoever is present to be able to bring a motion to those present to force those who are not present to the floor. It's usually one of a handful of motions that don't require quorum.

    People can boycott it all they want. I just don't use them, but none of that really hurts Amazon in the end.

    If people want to actually hurt Amazon they need to call on the Government to break up AWS, Ma Bell style.

  • This is a trademark dispute. This is why it's filled with the USPTO as opposed to a court case. Bar for this is way, way lower. Sony has an incredibly good chance to prevail. Sony winning here at the USPTO would deny a trademark for Naughty Cat. But if there is a decent rebuttal from the studio, it may have to go to court to be settled.

    That said, Naughty Cat is likely doing exactly what Sony details in their complaint. As the publisher's works are mostly cheap slot machine themed games.

    Naughty Cat only has two apps listed on the App Store, and both are gambling games that promise real cash rewards.

    It's very likely this is one of those cheap Chinese drive by studios and it pinged on Sony's radar a lot earlier than the studio thought it would.

    But motions of opposition are not the same as a full blown suit in Court. So Sony does have an incredibly good chance to have their trademark invalided.

  • Yes, this tweet is actually devoid of reality.

    Nebraska is indeed facing a shortfall in their budget, but it is wholly of their own making. In 2023, lawmakers used the surplus to pass a personal and corporate income tax decrease. However, the surplus was largely due to one time Federal aid they received.

    Now that the Federal aid has ended (and it ended because it was scheduled to end, not because Trump ended it), the tax revenues are not enough and the State is -$432M. They raided the rainy day fund for $150M, but all this does is delay the inevitable. The State was hoping that the decrease tax would spur growth and for the most part the State's economy has been strong but steady, not exactly growing and nowhere near enough to cover this shortfall.

    It's very clear that the State has mismanaged the budget. You cannot use one time aid to fund long term tax cuts, that's the intelligence of finding a lower paying job because you found a coupon. Nebraska's Republican led State Legislature is pretty much the largest causer of harm to the State. Not to mention that they also passed LB 243 in 2023 which took a large amount of funding away from Schools, so outside of just ending public education, there's not much more money they can extract from their favorite thing to extract money from.

    But all that said, the State did it to themselves. No need for Trump to be involved.

    They will lose the 2028 and wonder who they need to blame outside of themselves. I've honestly tried voicing my concerns with the TN Democrat party, but LOL they don't give a bleep about anything from the State of TN.

    I'll keep speaking my mind but shoot it doesn't feel like anything is going to move the needle with them.

  • Exactly this. Shit I remember when the alt.* tree was added to USENET. The amount of the cabal talk and how the argument actually was: "No, nobody wants to pay to host your racist rants". And some of the worst stuff I see on Reddit today is light-years better than what the Internet was in plain sight back in the day before cracking down on things actually came around.

    I'm glad person in the imaged post was happy with the Internet back then, but it was far from "human and genuine". This is absolutely some rose tinted nostalgia. What they miss is small niche communities and this kind of talk is exactly how "get off my lawn" elderly people get started.

  • Exactly. That's the issue I keep trying to tell others about social media. It is insanely easy to run bot accounts with a very minimal amount of something like Python programming. And even if that's not your cup of tea, you can just literally have a half dozen people very easily log in and out of six fold the number of actual humans accounts.

    Like for six people, running 60 to 80 fake account manually is a piece of cake and if they're really good and focused on task, that can easily be 150 to 200 accounts manually ran. Like running a bot army is incredibly easy for anyone.

    This is why you have to take a lot of social media with a massive grain of salt. A lot of people are out there playing the algorithm, way more than I think people give credit for.

  • They were arrested in El Salvador, likely the charge is "Fuck that person in particular". El Salvador has long since left any semblance of law and order, that's why Trump has become so cozy with them.

    I will be absolutely shocked if the person is still alive a year from now. And this also highlights why everyone knew that trying to mount legal defense from El Salvadorian jurisdiction was never going to happen. The country has demonstrated zero compunction with incarcerating people the government doesn't like and indicating that legal rationale isn't needed to justify their actions.

  • Roughly 2.9 million people who have student loans are age 62 or older. I'm very curious as to how many in that demographic are within this defaulted status. Mostly because any change in social security benefits for a retiree is life altering and if any significant portion of that group that's defaulted is also this 62 or older group, the changes this will have a massive impact on the population. Retirees that get caught into money troubles not only brings them down, but usually the family that ultimately has to catch them from completely falling through the cracks.

  • The prison camp isn't where they want to hold them. It's the Guantanamo Bay's Migrant Operations Center where they want to hold them. It suffers the same issues at Alcatraz, so either way they want to slice the bread here, they have to go through a set of hoops to get it to any kind of position to hold long term prisoners.

    The salt from the ocean has corroded the bars, a good kick likely would open the windows. To secure the place would take years of rework or just outright tear down and rebuild.

    The place hasn't had proper upkeep since the late 1960s and honestly very likely before then too. It wouldn't serve to secure anyone that various places out in the Midwestern desert regions wouldn't do multiple times better.
