  • That's sort of an interesting stance, at least in that I haven't seen it before. My first question is how would one determine when an LLM is able to meaningfully consent. It sort of seems like one of those things where if someone believes an LLM is not past whatever threshold they need to be to be considered sentient/sapient/person like (whatever you wanna call it*) that their consent does not matter. In the same way a rock's consent doesn't matter, because it has no way to meaningfully give it. But LLMs are conversational. They can say they consent. If someone believes they're sentient, isn't that consent? If someone believes they aren't, then obviously it doesn't matter.

    *: I know those are all sort of different but I'm lumping then together because they're similar in that they determine when we start to talk about rights. It's not really about which particular threshold is the one that matter for responding to queries for the topic I'm talking about.

  • Yes, exactly, adopting the term side loading into our common vernacular is exactly what they want us to do. They want us to view installing apps from places other than the Play Store as Bad™ and Dangerous™ so they can better control what we do.

  • That's a really weird way to think about it. Yes, obviously they're all fictional, but you can of course make a character that has a vivid imagination or one that doesn't.

  • I don't know, I mean, look at the naming that some tech companies use IRL. They use some pretty silly names. The idea of a company finding a metal that's sci-fi grade and calling it Unobtanium as a nod to their love of sci-fi isn't that crazy.

  • If someone has a question, I can answer it immediately if they just ask me. If they say hi, ask me how I'm doing, or ask if they can ask me something, then it is going to take me longer to get them the information they need. Besides, there's never a setting where the answer to "can I ask you a question" is no, because they've given me no information about what type of question they want to ask. So to properly even answer that question I'd need to ask them more questions! So just ask the damn question. If I'm busy and can't answer I'll just say "I'm busy right now and will answer when I can" or direct them to someone else who I think can answer sooner.

    Besides, I've never been asked "do you have time to be asked some questions" which is not what I said I have a problem with. It's specifically "can I ask you a question?"

  • I can't remember why we didn't do that. Either it was further away or the wait was crazy and we passed it. But yes, there's a Waffle House adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park. Generally I prefer to go to Metro Diner though if I can get in.
