  • You should have mod access now too!

To clarify what happened with your earlier request, the default Lemmy UI is a bit weird when it comes to appointing someone as a mod. The UI for it only appears when clicking on a post or comment by the user in the community.

Meanwhile, some alternative UIs like Photon let you add new mods directly. That's the method I prefer to use, since there is less back and forth. That is how I was able to add you both just now, without needing any more comments/posts.

You should also be able to use Photon's mod tools now, and you can find those settings at https://photon.lemmy.ca/c/onguardforthee/settings

    ( tagging @1egg4u@lemmy.world as well)

  • I have added both of your accounts as moderators to the community, and you should have access to the community settings now. :) Please feel free to reach out if you have any issues!

    Also tagging @Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca

I'll see about getting in contact with the subreddit mods sometime soon.

On an unrelated point, I love the usernames 😄

  • No problem :)

  • Sure we can add you on there. I see there's another post with a pending request, did you want to work together on the community @Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca ?

You can totally have the community and build it up, but for some context on why it isn't active currently:

From memory, the r/onguardforthee mods set up the community here during the API migration, but did not have the capacity to keep it going alongside the subreddit. Since !canada@lemmy.ca covers much of the same content, and we don't have the history that r/canada and r/onguardforthee went through, there hasn't been that much demand for that community. We also have some existing communities that fulfill the sub-niches, such as !ehbuddyhoser@sh.itjust.works for memes or communities like !ndp@lemmy.ca for political party specific content. You can see the sidebar in !canada@lemmy.ca for a list of those.

You're welcome to take over the community and build it in a way that makes sense to you. If you wanted a connection to the subreddit (ex. sister communities), we might be able to put you in contact with the subreddit mods

  • I believe Kokomheart returned recently, and might appreciate the help.

    @Kokomheart@lemmy.ca what do you think?

  • I think the concern is the multiple accounts and frequency of reposts.

When you use a few different accounts to share the same content, people who don't want to see it will have a hard time blocking it. When someone posts the same content too often in a short period of time, people start to downvote the subsequent posts.

  • Also the proportions of the kid, the cart, and the milk is all off.

The cart is way too short and long/wide, and you can't stack milk on top of other milk that neatly

  • The TV even kept the same reflection on it

  • Unless someone has more information on this, I'm going to chalk this up to AI-generated rage bait.

The kitchen area still has the same items on that shelf, there's an ugly hole where the old CRT TV is (despite the room being “finished” looking), the reflection on the TV is still the same, and the patio turned into an office meeting room. I'm not going to spend time on perspective calculations, but something about the beams on the roof and the placement of the railing look off.

  • Out of curiosity, why doesn't the tag go with the cat? It looks like it could fit on a collar.

Wouldn't it be easier for the person or clinic to keep paper records instead?

  • What a scrungy otter 😄

Thank you for the tip, I'll try to remember that one

  • What's idiotic is that OpenAI broke the law, got caught, and was successful enough in turning it into a marketing stunt (aimed at investors) that other companies want to do it too.

With this precedent, all you need to do in order to get away with hacking is to change your user agent to something an AI agent uses. /s

  • Unfortunately some of the stuff that allows fingerprinting falls into a convenience vs privacy argument. It allows a website / web app to make changes to display things more appropriately, or have helpful functionality. That's why when you use a browser that is very strict about fingerprinting, some stuff will break.

An even simpler example is the screen aspect ratio. On a small screen, you want to use as much of the space as you can, but that information can be used for fingerprinting. This was annoying on browsers like mullvad, before they updated the aspect ratio to something more modern.

That doesn't excuse companies that abuse that data for malicious fingerprinting.

  • I don't think that's what the user is asking for though. I read it as wishing that the games didn't have those security requirements, so that they could play the games on Linux.

The joke in the meme isn't "thank you to Linux maintainers for not compromising security", its a joke about those games themselves.

Also their point about toxicity is valid, and I've found that it varies by distro. Without being specific, in case I just had a bad experience, some support communities were very hostile to users asking questions. If the new person didn't phrase their question perfectly, using all the correct terminology, the support person refused to answer the question. It was a thread of "You said X, but X actually means Y, so I don't understand your question. Did you mean Z", when it is obvious from context what they meant.

  • I didn't realize that Ruby Tuesdays was a chain restaurant, so that's probably the reason it's a shitpost

It's still wholesome though. Maybe that particular Ruby Tuesdays has an excellent team. Or maybe they like spreading good vibes and every review is like that 😄
