  • I appreciate the sourcing, but meaning no offense, you are not using industry sources, and this is very much "inside baseball" unless you are in the industry and read the industry sources (or encounter it yourself). To a lesser extent you can trawl OFAC for some public numbers.

It's true that Iran has refined products shortages all the time due to both their limited refining capability and the higher value cargoes (such as gasoil) being sold via the dark fleet.

The dark fleet itself is a massive source of storage for crude, and to a lesser extent, various products. These ships are mostly anchored East of Johor and are Suexmazes or VLCCs, ships like a small mountain.

Iran does re-import some refined products from India and the so-called "teapot refiners" along the Chinese coast, but this is not always enough to meet domestic need. The Iranian government does not give two shits about this due to the fuck ton of money they make off the dark fleet (which then goes to Quds, etc.)

  • Sorry, I hate Russia with the heat of a thousand suns, but they are no where near being out of oil. Sanctions have done very little about and have instead created the "dark fleet" of tankers (crude mostly but some products). The dark fleet also includes tankers in the Iranian and Venezuelan trades, but it's up to 10% of all tankers by dwt now. People make very serious money transporting Russian crude and products.

  • Now do the ablative and dative.

  • Startpage is the business, can confirm. Only default on FF on my work computer though, boo to Safari (and the dumb add on that doesn't actually add it).

  • The mods walked that back right away.

  • Um what? The hate for JKR is quite active on bsky. OP smoking crack; we hate that bitch.

  • There are days....

  • Shipping and petroleum - got an old Ikea Mercator map behind me for quick looks and estimations.

  • I'm in the one and only line of work where Mercator makes sense, and even I hate Mercator.

  • 100% agree. With climate change, folks are not going to stop coming, not going to just stay at home and die. We have to urgently reform the whole immigration system with an emphasis on integration.

And by integration I don't mean giving up their own cultures or language, but rather that life is better for people when they are comfortable in their environment. You won't get comfortable if no one shows you how the culture works, which, it's been my experience, they don't.

  • We're still fighting here and still have a free press. Join us.

  • My fellow Europeans, fight! Keep fighting until we drive them back to their basements!

  • Ah ok, that's a better outcome!

  • I did not know he lost his job over stupid internet points. I mean, he did a kind of minor shitty thing, but losing your job?

  • I've mostly used "rabies" but recently have gone with "hornets."

  • Over time, that is what normally happens to language (even French, yeah looking at you Gauls).

But, English and especially North American English is so predominate in the world, that may stop its otherwise natural development.

/not a linguist just friends with some.

  • For work at any given point I have 17-20 tabs open. It's totally useful for me to sort them into tabs to cut out the "noise" when I'm doing research.
