  • Trailer sure as hell looked better than the original which butchered that amazing book.

  • You really want to let that water sit still for a bit before you take it out. It could have superheated (meaning a portion under the surface tension has converted to gas) and explode when disturbed.

  • I read it, and the big take away is that if you are out of the room in three seconds, no poop plume gets on you, personally.

J/K that's true but I've always closed the lid anyway, 'cause it's just polite.

  • There are already cryptocurrency features in the Signal app of dubious utility.

Yeah, that was a bizarre move, but it doesn't interfere or interoperate with any of its comms functions. Also I have never even read online about anyone using this crypto feature, let alone known any one who did.

  • If they love you they will download an app for you. And it's important to keep in mind that most modern mobile OSes will stop showing notifications from an app or even hide the app if the users doesn't open it after X amount of time.

So it's up to you to keep the conversation alive enough they get used to using it. If my 83 year old father can, so can your friends.

  • Le sigh. Your answer makes me really wish we could have the equivalent of r/askculinary here.

  • Fair enough. But if you don't tell someone why you are unhappy with them or the situation they control, then nothing improves for anyone.

  • I don't understand how people are upvoting this comment. Granted, this is online land, but OP made himself vulnerable asking this question which takes ...emotional maturity. If you think it's a loaded question of full of judgment then it's on you to explain why that is so.

And yeah, it's a bit loaded and a bit judgy, but it's also brief and inclusive.

  • Every (good guy) male character in LoTR, especially Aragorn. All great examples of genuine masculinity.

  • Oh, ok.

  • This is what my Zoomer son said when I asked him as well.

  • Why would I do that? The statement is in the not the imperative mood, not the interrogative mood. Am I missing some kind of Lemmy etiquette?

  • This is the sort of thing that makes me want to burn stuff down.

  • The answers here are making me wonder if I should do the same - what are the downsides? Having to look up every single username and password for example?

  • I quit once using the Allan book, and everyone I know who read it has, but there is a catch: it will never work a second time.

I quite by accident using much vilified e-cigs. Yeah there is some serious bullshit going on with the super high nic disposables the kids get a hold of, and with disposables in general. But just enforce the damn laws you already have and don't enshitify or even destroy the thing that probably saved my life 12 years ago!

  • I got them eliminated for two of the positions that report to me (the only two that had them).

Yeah, you need to know how basic accounting works, but that's going to be obvious from your CV; you don't have to prove it again.

I do get that in some industries, especially highly technical ones, you might need some evidence of how they problem solve. But if ask people to do something at home, you should pay them for it.

  • I don't think you got down far enough to the place where I explained I did ask them and got a bs answer. Or how I know my Millennials are happy with the job (mostly, there's always something that could be better). And I did get them a lot more money last year, risking the wrath of every other member of senior management.

Talking down to anyone at my workplace is a huge no no. Our owner/CEO is a seriously old school Cypriot and takes his (mainly British inherited) civility very seriously.

  • Actually my two most senior people are permanent WFH and I'm quite sure they do this (and I do not care at al).

The ones in our offices, yeah that would not go over well with their colleagues, you are right.

  • In this case unfortunately it means "objectively not doing the job you are paying them to do." Like, core job duties.
