ArkScript lang developer, split keyboard fanatic

  • This isn't selfhosted but you can use uptime robot. They can send regular http get requests or ping an IP or URL, the free tier can have like 10 monitors I think? I receive an email when an host isn't available, in 5 minutes usually.

  • The hori split pads are great, but you can't use them wirelessly. And the adapter that exists to use the pad not on the Switch is wired. Otherwise it's 100% better and have really nice joysticks (now I can't use that as an excuse for loosing on Mario kart...)

  • I know someone that remapped their keyboard to have ;hjkl instead of hjkl; (this is a split keyboard running qmk). This way they could keep hjkl and not remap anything inside (neo)vim.

  • That's my point, maybe it wasn't clear enough. I think people that need to transfer a lot of data often to and from their phone can justify taking the Pro model (photographers, video makers, etc)

  • Do you really use USB-C to transfer data or to charge your phone? It's been years since I used it for data, so I don't think that's a problem, in a world where cloud is becoming the norm.

  • I prefer the pro as it has more power and active heat dissipation through fans. Otherwise you said it, they are pretty much the same.

  • I don't understand what this has to do with my post?

  • There is still the journal you could use to recover the old state of your database. I assume you commited after your update query, thus you would need to copy first the journal, remove the updates from it, and reconstruct the db from the altered journal.

This might be harder than what I'm saying and heavily depends on which db you used, but if it was a transactional one it has to have a journal (not sure about nosql ones).

  • Luckily the GB(A) consoles are the easiest to mod nowadays, to add backlight, rechargeable battery, better audio... IMHO this is still the best way to enjoy GB/GBA games, instead of emulators which can be buggy/force me to stay on the computer (or worse, on my phone)

  • Ask yourself: do you really need a performance boost or are you just chasing the numbers to avoid a non-existant problem?

  • Funny playing IPS v3 and shell+buttons (for IPS), clean juice rechargeable battery. They both have guides and that's the only thing I needed.

  • FKcaps provides custom choc keycap, that you can design how you want. However they don't have a wide range of colours yet.

  • That would be tactile. You could have a look at mow profile switches like choc v1 and v2, cherry ULP, gateron lowprofile. Mind you, they aren't compatible with one another, even choc v1 and v2 have slightly different pinouts.

Best tactile lowpro switch I would recommend are the sunset choc ones.

  • Thanks! They were like 45€ without shipping, and I got 36 (the thumb ones are concave and I prefer convex caps). That makes the caps more expensive than a MBK legends set but it's 100% your own, which makes it worth it to me.

  • The Model M sure looks really cool! I've 'ever used one, but it feel very retro (and I like retro stuff too) and the community generally agrees that they have really good switches. What do you use your Model M for?

  • Exactly, I tried this configuration on paper and then on a Cantor (42 keys, 6 columns) and this felt better for me and a friend than reaching down.

  • Thanks! That's truly heartwarming to read

Do not hesitate if you questions, the community is very friendly

  • The convex caps are awesome ; I felt uneasy with concave ones before, now my thumbs are lying on plastic cushions. They are not textured and allow your thumbs to glide on them.

  • It depends on the layer. I have volume, screen brightness, tab/shift tab (pair it with ctrl/cmd and this is very versatile), command left/right (browser history), ctrl left/right (macos virtual desktops), undo/redo, scroll up/down, page up/down. Since it can also act as a normal switch, I put play/pause on it when it controls the volume, and mouse click when it scrolls.

You could map them to mouse movement too quite easily!

  • Yes! Custom ones I ordered on FKCaps. I may have put them hastily, in the wrong orientation and place but since I can't read it (yet... another project!) it does not bother me haha
