  • Fun side story. My first job as a developer, I was working in a small porn company in downtown Chicago. We had just hired a few people, so being the only techy in the company it was on me to order a bunch of hardware from NewEgg.

It was supposed to be delivered days later. But no, they had an employee, just like a regular dude, hop in his car and deliver the order on the same day. This was probably 2006, so same day delivery way NOT a normal thing.

I rarely get to tell this story because I don't want people to know I started off my (somewhat long) software engineering career in porn and because who cares about this in today's world.

However, OP mentioned NewEgg, so it fits here.

  • Just noticed that! So, installing as we speak.

    1. lemm.ee for the first, then realized programming.dev existed. And, since I'm a programming dev, it made sense to sign up there. So, here I am.
  • Wasn't there a Vice series like way back in the day where they'd go spend time with people in remote locations and just see how they lived? Maybe I'm imagining it and it was just about drugs. But, I think that was a thing because I remember thinking it was super interesting.

  • When one procures the official shirts/hoodies, particularly the ones labeled "I am a beacon of joy" and "I found this. It's vibrating," a perpetual stream of compliments from observers ensues. On each occasion I venture outside adorned in these garments, I am reliably met with enthusiastic remarks from people expressing their adoration for them.

  • Agreed. It's amazing. I've got a few subbed on my mastadon account. It's just such cool tech.

  • WHAT. HOLY SHIT. YES.

  • It's ok, Stopher. It's ok.

  • That's entirely fair. That's why I went more frontend. The tiniest visual tweak always ends in negative feedback. It's super fun.

  • Can you PLEASE not send empty result sets with a next token then?

  • Sorry it took you so long. To be fair though, I forgot about it entirely and I also have been using this name for a very long time.

  • This sounds exactly like the conversations we have at work. Cries in frontend.

  • Thank you for the years on Reddit! Can't wait to have boost for lemmy!

  • This is where my mind went. Wondered if the reduction in heat would allow further overclocking/defaults on both CPU and GPUs. I don't know that much about the actual hardware and how it works though.

  • Oshit. Now this is a reason to log into my PC.

  • Yeah I'm not looking forward to that. 5 has been great for me for a few years though. Ads be gone!

  • Wait a gosh darned second here. Are those effectively high profile caps on low profile switches? Oh man, this just made my day. I love it! Had no idea they made anything other flat boys for chocs XD

  • I miss 3.1. the blue background was a specific blue and the gray taskbars were gray. What a wonderful time.

  • Nice phone you have there. Got to show mine to a really old Dutch lady yesterday. She was flabbergasted. Had just gotten her first iphone and had no idea what to do with it. She was really nice.
