  • Omg, this turned out to be a thread with plenty explanations to USians that societies have laws, police, judges...

You can blame the orange guy all you want, but your culture is completely derailed. Murder (under whatever "reasons") can't be a national sport.

Weapon manufacturers really did a good job in the land of the free..

  • That's awful, it means I would get my photo id stolen hundreds of times per day, or there's also thisfacedoesntexists... and won't work. For many reasons. Not all websites require an account. And even those that do, when they ask for "personal verification" (like dating apps) have a hard time to implement just that. Most "serious" cases use human review of the photo and a video that has your face and you move in and out of an oval shape...

  • No idea. Hey Siri, please read this post and answer OP's question. Is it weird? /s

  • I had the same question. The best would be to consult a lawyer and see if there's any precedent already set.

I could imagine police could easily film the process and a video would be enough proof for any judge. The phone shows a pin entry, a reboot, and then a welcome screen just like a factory reset has been done. Right?

  • You do you, of course. But, I think that combining the approach of immutable distros to either case would be a great way to add some security. Even if nothing is ever 100% safe, this would be very robust. Or, even without an immutable distro you can do Qubes or just any sandboxing (e.g. bubblewrap) to open documents and files.

In any case, being paranoid certainly is an elegant sport. Perhaps even more than golfing (:

  • Do you think Republican politics have the slightest responsibilities or none at all? I think all this thread, and the analogy itself plays into polarization, which is not a good way to actually put the much needed bridges... Everyone can do a lot. There are plenty of tasks and battles. Voting is one, very relevant every X many years. Focus on the everyday too. And on every neighbor. All needs should be covered. Do your best. Allow yourself to rest. We can do this.

  • iirc Mint removes a lot of Canonical's enshittification (i.e. snap) so... No. LMDE is more of an experiment for whenever 'cleaning' out Ubuntu turns to be much work or impossible, as a viable alternative. But right now, both Mint editions are acceptable and afaik the only difference is about using PPAs.

PS. I might be wrong, but this is what I learnt when I used those distros (around 2012-2014)

  • Yeah, Ubuntu was great long ago. Nowadays its parent company is trying to push new standards (started with desktop environment, then with how to install apps) that are extremely shitty takes on open source solutions. They need to be more humble... Imho, Canonical is no better than Microsoft. It's like they want to be in that position, next to the 'great players' and just try so hard. Knowing one's place requires too much wisdom.

PS: I hoped all around Debian distros, my favorite is now MX Linux "ahs" version (:

  • Hard dissent. First, Ban content not users. But even if you are banning users, just a quick detour through OPs history would have been enough to see it as a legit account, with a human behind it.. Plus, the picture surely has proving metadata, and detailed pixels.

  • In my case it doesnt appear in the App drawer but when I opened assistant it offered me switching to Gemini, which I did. Then within it, went to Apps to disable integrations like WhatsApp which by default was ON. Same with SMS and others.

  • Or if you prefer GUI on device apps, Shizuku and then use Cantata

  • Try Pangolin instead of cloudfare, though it requires a VPS (e.g. oracle free tier, or pay €1/month to ionos)

  • As for actual kernel anticheat software siphoning out data, again, it's something that we should not immediatly dismiss... The lack of evidence is not entirely on either side of this sudden 'you vs. me'

Acxiom does sell a package of "Gaming" data. Probably coming from mobile phones for the most part, since that's where most Studios are more aggressive (even towards children, see Tilting Point Media LLC settlement last year)

Again, knowing which Studios are selling data (identifiable or not) is impossible if no Court interferes.

I was only trying to make the point that it is feasible... That's why I referred you to recall that "capitalism bad yadda yadda.."

  • a binary and a kernel module are not the same. And I was talking about business practices that are known. But nevermind, that was before I understood you are just trolling. Now I'll simply wish you a wonderful reddit experience.

  • House chores done by women. No disney prince (except some rare case, if any) has ever done any laundry, sweeping, and so on. That's the bias we call sexism.

  • Data brokers do exist... Who they buy from is the only privacy they respect. You know, capitalism.

  • Random act of vandalism? This was not some graffiti art..

  • And this is when I banned OP...
