  • That sucks. I'm assuming they'll be grounded for a little while. I'm sure they weren't about to launch any security missions, but it still sucks for their lunar lander and Amazon.

  • Fortunate Son starts blaring

  • They've come a long way from IFT 1 hurling concrete a mile into the ocean

  • I'm here for it

  • It's cool to see concepts like this, even if I don't expect anything like it to happen anytime soon.

Another one that comes to mind is ThinkOrbital's spherical station made from welding together rigid panels like a soccer ball.

  • I miss the golden era of Netflix when they had everything. Now that all the streaming platforms balkanized... Fuck em.

  • I wonder how they're planning to fund the nuclear transporter full of little helicopters.

  • It's just SpaceX flying these missions, but it's still cool to see that now Vast and Voyager will get a chance to work with NASA in this way and learn more about crew training and ISS operations.

It's also cool to see continued demand for human spaceflight.

  • That's awesome. A 2.9m inner diameter is really significant.

It's funny picturing a giant crew or cargo Starship with a tiny IDA. Something of this scale makes a lot more sense, even if it's only to service a Vast station initially. Hopefully NASA and SpaceX are bought in.

  • If the New Glenn flight goes well, that's a 5 month turnaround for their first booster reuse. All things considered, that's not bad!

  • I like the plan to fly it next year either way, on the ISS or A3.

I wonder if it fits through an IDA. Maybe only in pieces, not while fully assembled or worn?

  • "I coulda done that myself on Polaris 3"

  • Great news. It was totally expected for the PBR to keep the vanity projects and slash science, so I'm glad the Senate is pushing back.

For all its flaws, this is where the "Senate Launch System" and a bunch of NASA jobs programs come in really handy.

  • That's a hell of a lineup. I'm looking forward to when New Glenn, Neutron, Terran-R, and Nova start regularly joining these and landing stages.

  • I'm sure some kind of giant arm will end up at the surface base!

  • Two big categories:

    Imaging + weather satellites

    Communications satellites

Those have tons of varirty. Hyperspectral imaging for farming, mining, solar farm maintenance, etc. Wildfire monitoring. Ship and other asset tracking. Remote connectivity for search and rescue and high speed internet to isolated areas.

I think there's also a ton of potential for future manufacturing and resource collection up there.

  • I'm hoping that in 5 years the tables will have turned and we'll be surprised by disposable rockets.
