  • Banned from Feddit.org for arguing against libelous statements calling others Nazis

  • PTB, the actions of Feddit.org and emopunker do not surprise me. They went to accusing me of being a bigot when I wouldn't readily accept the Hasbara apologia. It's not surprising they wouldn't use doctored evidence we are Nazis to support their own beliefs, and use their admin powers to suppress those who push back or call it out.

It's also possible emopunker doctored that evidence themselves. We can't really prove it but it certainly is possible.

  • You don't need to read 1984 to understand the basic meaning people get out of it. The significant aspects can be summed up as a few bullet points or a few short paragraphs.

Unfortunately because its message is so broad, it is often used in support of all sorts of opposing arguments, small and large, Jacob Geller discussed this topic in detail.

  • Zero, no matter how you define it.

  • In favor of this, lemmy.world needs accountability for their actions, them throwing their weight around to justify bad administration decisions is exactly what we feared when Facebook said they would enter the fediverse with threads. Hopefully we can get more instances on board with this like with Fedipact, or it won't mean a whole lot.

    Violence

  • It was a common choice back then before Hitler made everyone associate it with him. I believe it's called the Toothbrush mustache.

  • I guess that makes sense, although unlike a 200w heater it doesn't get warm as quickly. And so won't make a great heater. I guess it will ultimately put out that much heat over time though.

  • My refrigerator has 200w of draw and most of that goes into doing the refrigeration, so a few dozen watts of waste heat is my estimate based on my refrigerator. Which isn't a big refrigerator, it's definitely on the small size. A bigger refrigerator with a more powerful compressor will produce more waste heat but it'll still be small compared to the energy put in to do the work. And it'll be tiny compared to the wattage of a heater which top out at 1500 watts.

  • It also won't put out much more heat than is already in the room. It evacuates heat from it's interior, heat that was already present in the room. If the room was colder than the inside of the fridge, it wouldn't produce any heat at all. the thermostat would cut off after the temperature equalized and it wouldn't run at all.

When it does run it produces maybe a few dozen watts of waste heat. Definitely not useful to heat a space with.

  • GE currently sells a heat pump water heater on the market, I'm not sure if it uses resistive heating to supplement the heat pump

I have a portable A/C with a heat pump and it starts to struggle to heat my apartment once it gets down to 45-50F outside and it struggles to cool once it gets above 95F.

Your AC may be undersized if it doesn't perform well in hot weather, also unfortunately many heat pumps aren't optimized for extreme cold weather performance. Some are, it's definitely not a failure of heat pumps in general, but you'll only find those as permanent install units and they're usually only sold up north.

  • Major PTB from those in charge at LW. I left lemmy.world a long time ago because of behavior like this back when they were having a feud over the existence of piracy communities. I had a gut feeling they would sooner or later start mass banning people or defederate due to stupid reasons. And it seems I was right about that even if I wasn't right on the specifics of what. Honestly I want no part in this. It's why I don't really touch lemmy.world at all anymore.

  • I hope they'll come back soon since I help run a community there !sdfmc@lemmy.sdf.org which is needed to share images of projects on their Minecraft server.

  • I don't think that's happening any time soon...

  • I saw through the hypocrisy of most liberals and their desire to support those who seek to exploit them. I think I largely owe that realization to my joining this community, because I probably wouldn't have seen it or would've excused it.

  • That's probably the ideal outcome, let the people rule themselves instead of being ruled by someone else.

  • Nope Lemmy refuses all acknowledgement of the existence of site banned users including replies to their comments or posts. Although in delicate situations where I know they could get them I either don't annotate them or add them in as edits later to prevent pinging.

  • PTB. I wonder if @recursive_recursion@lemmy.ca went rogue or if the other admins approve of this. Someone should message other admins like @otter@lemmy.ca or @mp3@lemmy.ca to find out for sure. It's possible if they went rogue and were just doing whatever they could be removed which would be best for everyone involved.

  • In many ways it was. Lemmy.world had a lot more power and influence back then. I mean I still blame the other instances who chose to close registrations to "wait out the Reddit migration". I know people will defend that choice (for some reason) but it is insanely shitty to close the doors in times of need, and acknowledge the need, as if it's some kind of problem or annoyance.

  • Working smarter not harder doesn't mean pulling harder to get it out. It means chipping away at the problem, literally.

If you cut the stone around the sword, either to enlarge the crack or remove the piece of stone with the sword in it, you can get it out with slightly more effort cutting the stone, but none of the brute force effort required to pull it out. Which also eliminates the risk of breaking the sword.

These days it's so easy to cut stone with power tools, it's not like in the old days where that would be a slow process that would take months if not years. A stone cutting chainsaw can do it in minutes.

  • It was a long time ago, I think it might've been before this community was founded.
