  • This is the type of thing that pushes developers towards AI music generators and similar tools.

Being a piece of shit human being should be enough disbar lawyers.

  • Apply, get the job, then just have an AI agent do all the work for you

  • How can money be real if our eyes aren't real?

  • lmao you sound like you own LTT merch

  • They are going the way normies would, which includes asking the LLM of choice for a recommendation. But as they just regurgitate listicles inhaled from the web, that is what you get.

This is the "defense" they use, but I don't think it holds up. LTT knows exactly how the internet works, how SEO garbage is a massive internet problem, has nothing to do with Linux, and that nobody in the Linux community could ever possibly fix this. He's the one with a megaphone and the ability to guide users towards good resources and offset those problems, but instead he plays the usual clown role to create his own low-effort clickbait and memes. I don't think it's some anti-Linux bias or anything like that, just regular influencer attention-whoring.

The guy installing Bazzite seemed like the only one genuinely representative of what the video was trying to do (Luke didn't count IMO since apparently he was already a Linux user), but I think Linus's clown show steals the spotlight. Like, he literally tried to install it in the middle of a LAN party while people were waiting for him to start the game. WTF

  • This is weak. Here's the text of their email template:

Passing bills that weaken end-to-end encryption, require online ID checks, or repeal Section 230—which protects free speech online—will give Trump the power to crush public and private dissenters. Lives will be irreparably harmed if you enable Trump’s government to pressure abortion funds off the internet, surveil our messages, or age gate and censor online resources for vulnerable communities. If you care about your constituents, you should oppose EARN IT, KOSA, the Cooper Davis Act, the SCREEN Act, and any bill to impose age verification requirements or to end Section 230 speech protections.

This is way too focused on partisan issues, and pretty much guaranteed to be ignored by any republican congressperson who receives this since they don't expect to win your vote regardless... and since they currently hold the majority, that's exactly what you don't want.

The underlying issues are bipartisan, so why isn't the petition?

  • There are a lot out there in C++ land, and I'm sure C has a lot too. You can't really go wrong with any if them tbh, just check if it has a lot of stars and go for it. I've used microprofile before and it served me well. You can view live data from an embedded webserver.

Perfetto is a powerful one from Google, but I've never used it.

Also, don't overlook gprof. That works via auto instrumentation done by the compiler, so it'll give you the most detailed look at performance with zero work from you (besides interpreting the sometimes massive amount of info)

  • False. He sees grift opportunities nobody else can.

But yeah, he's not the founder.

  • Go out and vote, everyone. Most Americans only vote in presidential elections, but if you do that you end up with a state legislature that doesn't represent you, and tries to pass idiotic laws like this.

  • It's always inspiring to see random people on Lemmy calling out big-FOSS and sticking up for the little guy.

(Mandatory /s in case people don't know that FUTO's founder is literally a tech billionaire)

  • By far my number one reason for hating Ubuntu is that a lot of lazy software publishers think that only supporting Ubuntu is good enough to reach Linux users, even though (as this article points out) they're one of the more contrarian and overall difficult to work with distros in the ecosystem.

Its less of a problem today thanks to containers. Even when a dev doesn't publish a flatpak, you can usually run it in a podman/docker container, or in a toolbox/distrobox.

Still, it pisses me off when I see that happening (even though it's technically not Canonical's fault)

  • Friends don't let friends use NixOS

  • I fully support eating Nazis.

I wouldn't want to work with one though.

  • in what ways is GrapheneOS actually more secure than LineageOS?

In many ways. This document provides a detailed overview of Graphene's unique features, and is worth a skim even if you're unfamiliar with some of the jargon.

My very reductive summary is that Lineage is primarily focused on reviving and bringing modern features to old devices, whereas Graphene is focused on hardening the security of AOSP as much as possible.

Both are de-Googled. Lineage is good for e-waste prevention, but not security. You will never be able to secure a device that can't receive kernel updates because the OEM abandoned it, and "state actors" are certainly not the only people who can exploit those vulnerabilities.

  • Does Bazzite have good Nvidia support and do they have a good track record with testing updates? I don’t want my graphics card to suddenly stop working after an update as it likes to on Kubuntu.

Yes, although nobody is perfect so it's always a possibility. The difference with Bazzite (and other immutable distros) is if it does happen, all you need to do is reboot and choose the previous version in grub. It'll be like the update never happened, no need to look up or run any magic commands.

Then you just wait until they fix it before updating again.

  • And shitty imitation Spanish Ham from Texas

  • We are quickly back to the corporate MSFT that doesn’t listen to its users or employees. All that good will has been washed away and now I feel the need to switch off of Windows.

Please cite one example of Microsoft ever giving a fuck about users. Since their inception, Microsoft has always been about gaining as much leverage as possible in every business relationship, and then exploiting that leverage to the fullest. "Embrace Extend Extinguish" is a well documented example of that philosophy.

Anybody who still trusts Microsoft is dumb, or too young to have been really screwed over yet.

Seriously, STOP TRUSTING MICROSOFT. No matter how much the tech industry evolves, that rule is ironclad. It has even outlived Moore's Law.

  • This is nonsense. Everyone needs the most secure phone possible, especially considering it's the only device some people will ever own. None of the other de-Googled offerings come close to the security features that Graphene offers, some of which are custom built solutions. They go above and beyond what the typical ROM does, which is why it even supports a lot of banking apps that would normally be blocked.

There's a good reason people talk about GrapheneOS a lot lately, and not any of the many alternative Android ROMs that exist.

Also, let’s keep in mind that GrapheneOS only supports Pixel because they don’t want to allow people to run their OS on hardware they don’t think is secure enough

Obviously. That's the point: Graphene isn't just any de-Googled ROM, it's specifically a product designed for security-conscious users. If someone doesn't care about security and just wants to dick around on an old Android device, they can use one of the many toy ROMs out there (like iodé)

The main goal of Graphene OS is to protect users from some very specific attacks like some devices police uses to unlock phones or some targeted hacks by state actors.

That's simply not true. It does do those things, but that's not "the main goal". Not sure where you got that from?
