  • Did you look into Raku at all? I'm fascinated with it but haven't used it for anything serious.

  • I appreciate your sharing of recommendations for other resources that you are familiar with. That's genuinely helpful.

However, while I agree that those you mentioned publishers don't have high minimum standards for author selection or editing (to varying degrees among them), I disagree that all of their books are garbage and that none of their authors have a genuine interest in passing on knowledge.

With that in mind, I'd be interested in reading what distinguishes this book as a "coffee table book" beyond it being published by No Starch Press. That is, what about the content of this book falls short as an introductory resource for the subject for those curious about compilers?

  • I'm not sure what to make of your comment.

  • Calm down, sadist.

  • It think you get it. Repositories are superfluous abstractions that are focused on mocking databases for unit testing. They are entirely unnecessary, unless you're being micromanaged over unit tests.

  • Sorry this wasn't received well. I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with the article , but I'm not sure it provided a lot of context around the concept and when it's worth while and when it may not be.

  • There are some things that it is better to begin than to refuse, even though the end may be dark.

  • I think making an assumption of hom being "right wing" based on that information is a poor assumption. It's clear that his behavior has been disruptive, negative, and promoting an unhealthy and unhelpful environment among the community and I think things could have been deescalated. I hope people on the committee aren't making the bad faith assumption that there's no way forward other than to excommunicate people who aren't presently fitting in with the prevalent culture of the community.

  • Let the LLM fill in the details

  • You should preach to the choir.

  • Life is full of contradiction

  • To understand recursion you must first understand recursion.

  • If all you care about is speed you could do even better than EXT4. But I wouldn't recommend it because you should care about more than speed.

  • I love that bcachefs is getting so close to being a realistic option.

  • Seems like the demo site is only in French

  • Brush your teeth daily.

But also there are too many beginner resources for JavaScript and web development, so don't overthink it. Use something that's good enough and serves your purposes and you seem to vibe with and stick with it.

MDN is pretty much the best reference site that could possibly exist for JavaScript and web development, so get familiar with it and use that as needed. They have some beginners tutorials which are nice if you just want to get a peak and practice at certain topics. They have a full curriculum for learning web development that I'm sure is good but I haven't looked closely at.

Generally, I think The Odin Project is the best full curriculum for learning web development from zero knowledge to proficient. Like any other resource, it won't resonate with everyone, but it's worth a look if that's what you're after.
