  • What are you testing?

  • Interesting comic and definitely a fun read, although the first issue is pretty much all setup and a smidge of nu-trek (a lot of "I joined Starfleet for the adrenaline rush" kind of characters).

the definitive red shirt story is not even Star Trek, it's Red Shirts by John Scalzi.

  • In Chile there's this 2000's telenovela called "Romané" about a group of gypsies that arrive to a town in northern Chile. I personally don't understand the fascination, but the show took over the collective minds of the population, I guess it was the abundance of quotable moments and the very distinctive speaking patterns of the characters and their personalities, they were memes before we knew what a meme was. You can quote any character in the show and everyone will know what you're talking about, even young people.

They're still rerunning the show every couple of years or so, 25 years later, I'm not aware of any other show here that has resonated so much.

  • hot water is a relatively modern luxury. you probably have a living ancestor that remembers not growing up with easy, or any, access to hot water, just hurtfully cold, refreshing water.

  • Niagara user here, I think it's worth every penny, and it's so cheap, and the developer is very receptive. It's a very simple purchase.

  • Chilean here, we have two classics:

    1. Completo (as in "complete", also known as Dinámico for "dynamic"): Diced tomato, sauerkraut, mashed avocado, chilean american sauce (finely chopped pickled white onions, carrots and pickles) and mayo.
    2. Italiano ("italian"): Diced tomato, mashed avocado and mayo.

I'd normally go for the latter and save the former for special occasions.

  • I think they also want the curated way that apple let's an application into the app store.

the play store is kinda not very restrictive...

  • do your wife and your girlfriend ever interact?

  • The Timicin episode (S04E22 "Half a life") always makes me tear up at the end. The emotional struggle that Lwaxana had is heartbreaking, and speaks a lot about the role that we give our elders in our society. It's something that we still struggle with more than 20 years later.

  • is this the update where I can delete from the address bar history on Android?

  • I live in South America, it's not, every groundskeeper in my medium-income condo neighborhood has one, and makes working from home really difficult, specially in the summer when you want to open a window

  • True Blood, season 2 IIRC?

  • correct me if I'm wrong, but it's up to 1000 in Spanish, right? I'm wondering if I'm saying 9 right.

  • I used Skype a lot to call landlines from outside the US, but now I need a replacement, do any of you have recommendations? I'm testing Rebtel, but it isn't cutting it for me, it connects like 1 out of 5 times.

  • This Saturday we had some friends from the board game group over, and I showed them my copy of Kelp, because it's just a 2p game, I watched them play from the shark side, as I have no poker face for this game. They really enjoyed it!

After that we played Coffee Rush, it's a great game to play with 4 people because you get lots of coffee orders and the game goes really fast! it was a blast.

  • I personally think of board games as a graphic design expression. I know there are good games hidden underneath bad or dry art, but I can't interact with them if they don't look good to me.

Regarding pieces, I don't care much for plastic or wooden pieces, I care for things that make sense in terms of readability of the state of the board, and if a game comes with ultra-detailed miniatures but they are all gray, I'd rather have cardboard stand ins that help me differentiate them.

  • my theory is that (most) people want their money's worth. if you have two phones, one bigger than the other, but you don't know the prices of each, the perceived value of the bigger one is higher, even in they're both the same price you wouldn't assume right away that the bigger one had to cut things out to offset the bigger display.

phones are also a big gift item, and people are not concerned with niche likes in those cases.

I'd say that the increased popularity of foldable phones currently speak of our desire of smaller phones (my partner at least says it's the reason she loves hers) with a higher perceived value. I hope marketing departments are taking the right notes from these and not that foldable is better.
