  • What you're seeing is that people no longer feel the need to keep their mouth shut when they don't like the joke. In previous generations, they had no platform and, in some cases, their physical safety was at risk. Social media has given them a voice and community where they can share their opinion.

At the same time, corporations only give a shit about profits, not art. They'll chase whatever makes them more money. If they don't think that people will watch something, they won't fund it.

Combine those and you have folks willing and able to tell corporations they won't buy something they don't like. But, of course, that can be outweighed by actual purchases. Netflix keeps shoveling money at Chappelle; people must be keeping their subscriptions to watch him. Substack recently announced they'll host and monetize Nazi newsletters. J.K. Rowling continues to be Andrew Tate for women and pulls huge residual checks.

So if you want more offensive things in the world, seek it out and pay for it. Corporations will churn it out if there is demand. Just don't expect people to only judge you quietly; they have tools to be loud now.

  • Yeah, I don't understand why every award show needs to be a roast now.

  • You made choices and got the results of those choices. The alternative results are different.

!There are multiple endings where Karlach survives in different ways. Shadowheart's story has at least three possible outcomes, maybe more that I haven't seen. This goes on and on for each origin character. Even NPCs you encounter in Act 3 are shaped by your choices earlier in the game.!<

Frankly, based on your description, it sounds like you made a bunch of lame decisions. There's neat endings and then the middling one you got.

  • Literally went to every site in Authy and removed 2FA and then re-added it with the new app.

  • Is that why I sometimes wake up still high after taking an edible to fall asleep? I just assumed the dose per piece wasn't as tightly controlled as they advertise.

  • Spent an hour last night moving to 2FAS. Authy doesn't make it easy -- unlike their competitors, they don't offer an export feature.

  • I can't tell from their page -- is it syncing via a SaaS service or just out to a file store like Google Drive?

Edit: It does sync with Google Drive and file exports. No SaaS component that I can see.

  • I'd watch it because I distinctly remember being let down by the ending of the last version -- everything after the writers' strike was hot garbage. American TV really needs to learn to do tight seasons and series instead of dragging everything out until fans give up on it.

  • Why wouldn't you take the weekend and look into this before publishing a tweet telling your fans that they're wrong? You could even post "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We'll investigate..."

  • I'm in Chapter 4 and it's pretty awesome. The puzzles feel like Portal puzzles (unlike some other mods I've tried.) There are less jokes than Portal 2 but that's really the only way you notice it's not an official work.

  • They already said that the Brave API is cheaper for them. That's the motive. They keep charging the same but pay less.

  • Right. They flat out said the Brave API is cheaper.

  • You mean you don't see the synergy between Firefox and an AI landing page generator? /s

  • Make sure you check the statement. You'd have to have launched the mod in a specific way during a specific time window

  • There is a very good chance that the PC platform will be a really horrible place because of the lack of consumer choice in which they can purchase and play games.

I agree with the sentiment that Steam will eventually have a shitification, but I remain optimistic because the PC platform is more open than mobile platforms.

GOG and Humble are existing, smaller stores. Microsoft had three stores they use to sell and install games. Half of the FAANG companies would love to get in on this space if an opportunity showed itself. If we get past high interest rates, I can see VCs getting in on this space.

It won't be pretty and we can support smaller options now. But I don't think it'll be horrible.

  • Yeah. I use DNS-level blocking too, but it's not something I can roll out to my non-technical family members. They understand turning off the browser extension if things don't work, but not adding a DNS whitelist and then waiting / clearing DNS.

  • Reddit expects to finish this year with ad revenue ... slightly over $800 million... Reddit had said two years ago it aimed to exceed $1 billion in ad revenue by 2023...

So they missed their two year goal by 20%. They had forecasted a 2.9x growth and achieved 2.3x

When it comes time to IPO, they'll just blame the economy and ad blockers, while showing how many users they forced into their app where ad blocking is harder.

  • Reuters has temporarily removed the article “How an Indian startup hacked the world” to comply with a preliminary court order issued on Dec. 4, 2023, in a district court in New Delhi, India.

Reuters stands by its reporting and plans to appeal the decision.

The article, published Nov. 16, 2023, was based on interviews with hundreds of people, thousands of documents, and research from several cybersecurity firms.

The order was issued amid a pending lawsuit brought against Reuters in November 2022. As set forth in its court filings, Reuters disputes those claims.

  • There's no counterpoint in that article. The article says that things should change. At no point did I say I agree with the status quo.
