  • Huh? Why?

  • I'm way out of the loop, but is the issue that they actively make it difficult to use the rendering engine or is it that the cost to modularize it isn't worth the payoff to Firefox itself? A subtle but important distinction IMO. I always felt it was the second, but maybe I was being dense?

  • That's interesting, I'd be curious to read more about that. Do you have any links to get started with? Searching this type of stuff on Google yields less than ideal results.

  • Sure, I was mostly asking about the printer and sticker setup. Generating a QR code is one thing. Getting it printed nicely on a sticker is another. OPs solution uses a preprinted qr code to a url and then you store your notes in their site. Nothing wrong with it if that's what you want, but I'd like to encode the data directly.

  • The manifest v3 situation does mean other browsers will continue to be able to block ads on YouTube; however, the new drm that Google is proposing for websites would effectively allow YouTube to block any browser they didn't like from viewing the site at all.

  • I see. So the QR code doesn't contain any of your data in it, it's just a url to that site, which let's you store notes under that url.

That's a neat site, but I was hoping for a local solution that actually stores the data in the QR code itself.

    Thanks for responding.

  • How do you print the QR code on a sticker? I'm just curious about your printer and software for that task.

  • That is why signal dropped support for it.theybssid it was to increase security because users could accidentally be using signal sending regular SMS. The way you got lore secure is not how they advertised the removal, but makes sense that happens in some cases. Same thing happened to me.

  • Yes you can. Paying for a major upgraded version is the alternative to an evergreen subscription, but allows you to milk more usage out of your purchase if you don't need the latest and greatest.

Expecting a one time purchase to entitle you to updates forever is asinine.

  • The way googles going, it's getting a lot closer than in used to be.

  • Is that because of the extension marketplace? Or the fact that the debugger has always been closed source?

  • That's exactly what happened to me too. It was in the background until something disrupted my status quo and then there was no looking back.

  • I don't have any fears cooking acidic food in my cast iron, I just clean it out afterwards like normal. People way over baby cast iron pans for no good reason.

  • While that's definitely where we need to aim, chrome has such a massive market share even if all the non chrome browsers band together it might not be enough.

I can see banks and employment sites implementing these things and forcing the hand of the smaller browser. I hope I'm wrong, but that seems likely.

  • It's the implication that the sync dev is doing something nefarious by charging to remove ads from the free app they developed.

  • At this point there are multiple updates per day during the beta period. I expect that will settle down once things stabilize, but for now it's definitely prudent to keep checking for updates.

  • Sad, but possibly accurate. Here's hoping some cities can do enough to get a critical mass of folks making a change.

  • I don't want to put words in your mouth, but I think you're saying, essentially "I work better in the office with others, so others should be here to make me work better" and I would submit that a better solution is for you to find a company that hires like minded folks so you can all work together in an office.

  • If it's a personal device, at worst they would see you are using a VPN and maybe ask what's up with that, but they can't mitm you on your own device.
