  • I may be misunderstanding this measure but I don't think that's going to be mitigated.

If I understand correctly, this requires browsers requesting a page to do a small amount of "work" for no reason other than demonstrating they're willing to do it. As a once off for devices used by humans, it's barely noticeable. For bots reading millions of pages it's untenable - they'll just move on to easier targets.

However, that only works for bots who's purpose is to injest large quantities of text.

For a bot who's purpose is to make posts, or upvote things, or reply to other comments, they're much less sensitive to this measure because they don't need to harvest millions of pages.

  • The nameology from these cunts is nauseating.

  • Australian here. IDK much about the feelings of Brits.

How could the populace feel so strongly about this divisive issue, while apparently such strong support for Farage exists, when I presume he would be pro-Israel?

... and seeing that I'm here, I have a bonus question: if Brits generally acknowledge that Brexit was a terrible idea, why isn't Farage tarnished by his ardent support for it?

  • this is kinda daft.

The diagram suggests that the far right are really more like centrists.

The reality is that "centrists" are usually conservatives (or further right) but trying to sane-wash their position.

  • These assholes are so fucking nutty.

I've been wondering a lot about the "virgin" Mary recently. I mean there must be many millions of young women who have gotten pregnant out of wedlock. How did the planets align for Mary such that people just seemed to believe that she was a virgin and that her pregnancy was a miracle from god?

I get that most things about Christianity require "faith" - as in it all just fits together if you just believe that it should - but this seems to me like an absurdity even in that context.

Like if a young church going woman today fell pregnant and claimed that she was a virgin, would anyone believe her? Hardly.

  • Here in Western Australia we've just introduced new cameras to address this.

The penalty has always been very steep if you get caught. Like a third of a weeks wage, and if you got caught 3x in 3x years you'd lose your license for a while.

That said, I dont actually know anyone who had been caught.

6 months ago these new cameras showed up. Its actually on a boxy trailer, hi-vis reflective yellow, a vertical boom going up 5 metres or so, then extending horizontally over the lane.

They've been issuing warnings up to now. "Here's the photo of you using your phone, usually you'd get a penalty but we're waiving that during this introductory phase".

    The penalties will start shortly.

Honestly anyone who doesn't notice one of these things on the side of the road has the situational awareness of a spare tyre and shouldn't be driving an e-scooter let alone a car.

  • I think they're trying to promote women in sports, and some idiot decided that a male player might enter the comp looking for easy wins against a smaller pool of players.

Its a compete failure to read the room, but that's my guess as to how they ended up here.

  • I use KeePassDX.

passwords don't show up while I'm on a signup or login page

I don't think they're intended to with this app? They don't for me. Yes it's a mild inconvenience switching over to me password manager to find a password but you don't need to do it that often.

I'm actually looking for a password manager that is free, private and secure (basically a service I can trust my data with)

KeePassDX is uniquely appropriate to these requirements because it's an opensource app with no sync, where everything else is a commercial platform with a free tier. Nothing is perfectly secure but with your own password db on your own device(s) you just don't have the same attack surface that the commercial platforms do.

There might be other opensource apps I guess but they're not going to have the same heritage, reputation and provenance that KeePass does.

  • No, it's not unwise. Mozilla has no mechanism with which to surveil your activities built into the browser.

That said, you should avoid categorising companies as generally trustworthy or untrustworthy. Any given service will have privacy considerations - some may be important to you, others may not.

  • I'm not denying that, but the comment above is talking about a story about a woman discovering she's a bot,.

  • Lately there's been someone chopping chives every day and posting a photo of the result.

There was a bit of a drama when someone noticed that the same photo was reused from a couple of weeks back.

The poster said they didnt have time to do it that day but wanted to keep the streak so they just re-posted an old one hoping no one would notice.

It was just such an amazing and engaging sequence of events and I feel fulfilled having been able to follow this roller coaster of emotion /s.

  • Bob only thinks hes human for about half a page?

  • I use redlib to lurk.

I find the drama subs like /r/AITAH entertaining. I know its all fake, but the groupthink responses are intriguing.

  • Plenty of countries with lots of hungry people.

The thing is, you would need a big chunk of the population to enter hardship at the same time, rather than merely being in hardship at the same time.

  • Loads of people have been unable to afford groceries for a long time.

To topple a regime you need the oligarchs to really start to hurt, so they withdraw their support.

I can't really see that happening in the foreseeable TBH.

  • No. I've actually been watching the POTUS tear apart the US democracy piece by piece while idiots whimper on social media about dreamy ideas divorced from reality.

  • I said, have you been under a rock for the last year?

  • I wish I had your faith.

This stuff has been going on for almost a year with this kind of limp wristed wet lettuce response.

Half of America thinks things are going great.

Even with a change of government I cant imagine there will be a great repeal of all th bad things.

  • Have you been under a rock for the last year?
