  • I think navigating an urban landscape a century ago was just generally more challenging than it is now.

Having a stick to fend off rats, dogs, or livestock would be essential.

Also muddy streets, gutters etcetera, are easier to navigate with a walking stick.

Finally just carrying a cool stick around with you while you conduct your affairs doesn't seem terrible. I find myself kinda wishing it was still a thing.

  • In this particular case, it probably appropriate to name this place Volvo island on google maps.

However, the ability to name things on google maps is often abused. People have taken to naming all sorts of things after themselves on google maps and it kinda shits me, if I'm honest.

  • Several litres of oil in an abandoned mine would be infinitesimal compared to the existing contamination.

  • That's not a deal breaker for me.

  • I don't think Vance could hold the fascist agenda together.

  • So he's not dead then?

  • Reading these comments it looks like it's not quite time to switch over for daily use.

Graphene is not a linux OS, but you could get a used Pixel 8 running Graphene and be happy through to 2028.

  • Sure, but I feel like most people in this thread are evaluating what devices are viable for their own personal use right now.

Widespread adoption would be great, but I'm not evaluating whether a device is presently viable for widespread adoption.

  • I kinda don't understand the question.

There's a lot of different phone scams.

Some of them just try to get you to pay them with itunes gift cards and what not. They don't need any information.

They don't pick a single random person. They call 1,000s of people to find one who's susceptible to their grift.

  • These kids didn't vote.

  • Cars still have built in GPS.

The updates are pretty terrible in my experience.

  • "must-have" is subjective.

Yes these things are required to achieve wide spread adoption but I personally could do without them.

  • Do you really think someone is going to set up a MITM attack for the dozen people who visit this blog?

  • ... if not more so.

Greta brings awareness but I'm not sure what capabilities she brings to the flotilla.

She's also less likely to be disappeared than others.

  • LOL. On the scale of risky things I've done today, visiting this guy's http website barely rates a mention.

Someone posts about something they've learned and the best you can do is dump on them about whatever thing in order to demonstrate to everyone your superior knowledge.

    Everyone starts somewhere.

  • I dont think so.

Maybe if he's had a stroke or something, it might take them a few days to figure out the prognosis and decide what to do.

They would already have a plan in place for his death and would implement immediately if that happened.

  • I remember when this was going on. It sure was a pretty awful program.

It's kinda nice to live somewhere that something like this can be publicly recognised as a failure. However, it's a shame that the then minister and then commissioner aren't personally held responsible.

IDK if "docudrama" is the right term for this.

The Chernobyl series is a docudrama. Looking at the trailer it's exclusively interviews and commentary. There might be some re-enactments included (although that would seem a bit odd).

  • somewhat perhaps, but I still think most strokes are either unnoticeable or catastrophic.

If he was effected they wouldn't let him shuffle around tripping over stairs and what not.

  • It would certainly mitigate the impact of his crimes on his many victims.
