I have a 500m walk to my nearest station in a residential area, and my list of places looks very similar:
- 2 hairdressers and a barber
- 3 regular restaurants and 2 fast-food places (both Döner lol)
- 2 bakeries
- a small supermarket
- a drug store
- a pharmacy
- a bank branch
- a flower shop
- a book store
- a few other shops I've never really paid attention to and genuinely couldn't tell you what they sell
All of that is there because about half of the apartment buildings have a shop on the ground floor. It's great, and I don't even live in a fancy part of the city.

In Kanada wiederum z.B sind Kosten für Wohnraum (und allgemeiner Lebenserhaltung) zurzeit ein riesiges Problem. Nicht an und für sich antidemokratisch, aber je mehr Leute unter den Folgen des Hyperkapitalismus leiden, desto einfacher breitet sich sowas in der Zukunft aus.. von daher würde ich das auch nicht unbedingt als "sichere" Option sehen. (Ganz davon abgesehen, dass das ja auch das Auswandern an sich erschweren würde)
Zu den anderen weiß ich nicht genug über die Innenpolitik, wobei Tschechien natürlich über die EU von Entwicklungen in Deutschland ebenfalls betroffen wäre. Schau ich mir aber mal an, ich würde mich ja freuen ein Land mit klarem Aufwärtstrend zu finden.
Intelligence also doesn't necessarily translate to actual success. I've been through numerous assessments as a child that confirmed I am comfortably in the "green zone" (if measured by IQ, that is), but I also have pretty severe ADHD so I can only really make use of my brain for short periods of time.
I can get a week's worth of work done in a day, but only once a week, and I spend the rest of the week wondering where I'd be if only I could work like that every day. I was also a decent student in school/uni but never near the top of the class, because I couldn't bring myself to study for anything more than a few days before the exam.
Also, deskriptiv habe ich auch auf Deutsch schon gehört, aber nur im akademischen Kontext. Eskapismus konnte ich aus dem englischen escapism ableiten, mir war aber nicht bewusst, dass es das auch als deutsches Wort gibt.
Es gibt Leute, die gerne mal das Wörterbuch rausholen nur um intelligenter zu wirken. Davon halte ich nichts – ein wirklich intelligenter Mensch kann seine Ideen zielgruppengerecht formulieren. Trotzdem ist es nicht verkehrt, seinen eigenen Wortschatz immer wieder zu erweitern, mindestens weil es das Gehirn und das Sprachverständnis auf Trab hält. Von daher: jedes neue Wort ist etwas dazugelernt, aber es ist keine Schande, es noch nicht zu kennen :)
Not completely, but back in like 2011 there was an official iOS user guide available as a PDF, and having just gotten an iPad I did go through a decent chunk of it learning about what I could (and couldn't) do with it.
Ah, I see. I agree that wording doesn't sound like you can do name change only. I remember reading that you can choose your own name but I suppose that must've been only in combination with a gender entry change then.
Hopefully there will be official confirmation at some point on what is possible. I have no need to change either name or gender for myself, but I'm happy that those who do will have a much easier time than before.

pretty sureno longer sure you can change your name and/or gender independently with this new law. Only limit is 1 change per year.I think there's a pretty significant difference between a week and 2 days in terms of how much time you had to solidify your understanding.
I also didn't take that long to pick up the basics, but I could not say that I understood hooks within the first two days of working with React. There are just so many small details and limitations that can catch you by surprise if you don't know why hooks work the way they do, same with the lifecycle of a component and what triggers a re-render. That does take a few days to fully understand in a way that you can utilize moving forward.
It's possible that I had a harder time because I was used to manipulating the DOM directly, and so managing all updates through state changes and being strongly discouraged from directly referencing UI elements felt very foreign to me. I don't think that my stance would change if I had a different experience in the beginning though.
Glossing over the pretentiousness of your comment
And your stance of "I can learn x in two days, so how can people say it takes longer to learn y" isn't pretentious?
When do you consider someone's "mental model" "appropriate"?
"appropriate" isn't a quantification of the mental model in itself, I am using the word as "having a mental model that is appropriate to the thing being learned". A different mental model is required for React than working with vanilla JS and manipulating the DOM directly, so the mental model for one isn't appropriate for the other.
And yes, a mental model is quantifiable, to the extent that it accurately predicts what consequences design and implementation decisions may have on the behavior of the system.
How do you know what is similar in complexity to React? As far as I can tell you aren't familiar with it.

Ah, there's the problem. Your definition of learning doesn't include having an appropriate mental model, which is key to actually retaining and internalizing the way it works. I don't think it's unreasonable to say that is a prerequisite for claiming to have "learned" something like a language or framework.
There is an organization called nyob (I think) pushing back against that and going through the courts to have more sites penalized for their violations. The process is slow, but I see more and more pages adopting the required "reject all" so there seems to be some pressure on them.
