  • Wikipedia has Zardoz in 2293. I'd say it got mixed up with Star Trek for 2263, except there isn't quite anything set then yet, with TOS starting in 2266 and SNW only up to 2261 or 62 so far.

    According to a report by the New York Times from earlier this week, two people familiar with the White House ballroom plans said the steel was made in Europe by ArcelorMittal, a Luxembourg-based steel manufacturer.

    Last October, the president said he received a “generous” offer of steel worth $37 million—but did not mention where the steel was coming from. According to the same Times report, shortly after the donation, the White House agreed to revise its tariffs in a manner “that could benefit ArcelorMittal, by cutting in half the tariffs applied to exports of automotive steel from its Canadian plant.”

    Israel's Ynet is reporting that the ceasefire also includes Lebanon.

    Citing security sources, the website said the ceasefire includes both Israel and Hezbollah laying down their weapons. It did not provide further details.

    Israel is onboard with the ceasefire, too. Haven't they done a fair bit of firing during the Gaza ceasefire(s)?

    The article's headline is wrong or misleading. Disney isn't looking at buying Epic for $1.5b, that's what they've already invested in Epic. There is no mention of a proposed acquisition price in the article.

  • The term virtue signaling refers to an annoying moral peacocking that has less to do with politics than with self-gratification. It’s the dinner guest who feels compelled to comment on the climate impact of every course. It’s the guy who annoys his colleagues during meetings with constant bits of civic guidance.

    But Donald Trump and his administration have embraced the Mirror Universe version of virtue signaling. They’ve pioneered the practice of “vice signaling,” or saying insulting or odious things both as attention-seeking behavior and as a way of showcasing their supposedly transgressive political views. They aim to demonstrate strength by being willing to appall other people, much as schoolyard bullies insult their classmates to gain the approval of other bullies. It’s the same peacocking, but with uglier feathers.

    I did not expect Star Trek's Mirror Universe to come up in an Atlantic article about politics.
