  • I assumed LaTex is a descendant of TeX. I'm not really well informed about the history of this kind of stuff, which is why I found it interesting.

Your POV is also interesting, as I always kind of held "hacker culture," in pretty high regard. But, now that I think about it, I see the appeal of rigorous, well studied things, built very deliberately, on strong foundations. I guess that's why I instinctively like things like Haskell, the kind of ML with provable bounds, information theory, etc. I've never messed around with Lisp-like languages, but I remember my ML-focused advisor speaking of them from when symbolic-AI and self-modifying code was all the rage.

  • If I understand correctly the pepperbox is very large; not really practical for mounting to goggles. Also, VAS is ran by a bigot. If you always want be cognizant of where you're facing, and always want to face the direction of your drone a patch would be ok, and would give you a bit more range. Otherwise, if you want to just fly all around yourself, go for an omni.

Also keep in mind to match your polarization for your air unit. Looks like the Box Pros only have linear polarized antennas? You'd probably get a bit more range, penetration, reflection rejection if you changed the antenna in your air unit and goggles to RHCP or LHCP.

Analog sucks for quality, interference, etc; but it has a kind of "graceful" degradation where if you have a lot of static and interference you can still generally navigate around OK if you're careful. 5.8ghz just sucks in general for penetration and range (theoretically better for quality if there wasn't so much interference).

  • It's been a while since I messed with home automation, but ESPHome was amazing to program ESP microcontrollers (i.e. you most likely wouldn't have to write any code). You can use ESPHome devices with both Home Assistant and Openhab (using MQTT, IIRC). The last I checked, it was easier to program your own functionality in OpenHAB than Home Assistant.

  • It creates a problems for copy-left licensed projects. Someone may be unintentionally breaking the license by using LLM bots, or even the LLM autocomplete.

  • Do we know these are ICE? Looks like the only indication is their gear saying "POLICE." Could be any police or anybody really?

  • For servers, I usually choose the distro with a version with the EOL scheduled furthest into the future. Usually that means Ubuntu (Server) LTS.

  • Guessing it's Jailbait from the Ace of Spades album.

  • In the case of Linux, especially the ones without a business built around them (e.g. Debian), they're more like mutual aid. They're not looking to sell it or exfiltrate your data in the future, after the "beta."

  • If this isn't fake, he switched to voting Republican when they started the Southern Strategy

  • This guy?

  • Low self discharge. Good for ultra low power devices like remote controls or lights only used on occasion where a rechargeable battery would self discharge faster than the rate of actual use.

  • I think it's still got a lot of gas. Investors still seem to be hyped about AI (e.g. the game stock downturn after Genie was announced), and that's all that matters. Tesla has held a nonsensical value pretty much for its entire existence. Furthermore a lot of the money going into the market is passive (401ks going straight into very top-heavy index funds), propping the largest companies up.

  • They're firing people living HCOL countries, and hiring in LCOL countries, using AI as cover.

  • I read a post from someone in MN that said ICE typically doesn't pursue people that run (on foot or vehicle). They can chase you, probably not legally in most cases, but laws don't apply.

  • I'm guessing it's effective to some extent, else companies wouldn't spend so much time green washing, pink washing, etc. To some extent, I do try to support the lesser evil, even though I think there's a lot of truth to, "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism." I mostly just do it out of principal, not caring if it's effective or not.

  • Seems they are often ideological capitalists or fascists and get a kick out of shaping the world into their vision.

  • The wealthy don't keep much cash. I'm pretty sure Trump has said that he wants a weaker dollar, or at least implied it. I've heard some people speculate that the admin is purposely trying to end the dollar's status as the world's de facto reserve currency. If they're serious about bringing most manufacturing back to the US, the dollar needs devalued, and real wages need to plummet. The admin is also heavily involved in crypto schemes.
