It's more like a reformat, the devs didn't have access to the original source code, and the original game was delisted and didn't run on modern systems, even the GoG version is problematic.
This is more like a repackage with mods, it actually includes some content from a large modding community called Circle of 8, and the devs donated $10,000 to a charity on their behalf as a thank you.
So I'm aware of the major plot device in God Emperor Dune, the 4th book and I really wanted to find out how we get there. I've finally got to the last few chapters in Children of Dune and just read what happens to young Leto. It's so cool, I really hope there is some kind of promotion in the upcoming movie that hints at this scene or its outcome. I'm excited to read the next book, and I'll probably stop there.
It runs perfectly on Linux and I'm having a great time with it. I've only played a couple of extraction shooters before (Call of Duty DMZ, The Circle) and they were generally very hostile, this game is definitely much more reasonable.
Actually my biggest issue is probably The Arc as opposed to the other players, the AI is super aggressive and will chase you down, if you survive it can be quite exciting, but sometimes it feels really cheap, especially when a Rocketeer blasts you in the first 5 minutes.
The Rust guy is saying that almost all of the 0.1% were cheaters so just removing their access by flicking a switch in EAC is a simple fix to the cheaters there.
They of course have cheaters on Windows too but that's an ongoing problem and more complicated for them to fix.
He's just picking low hanging fruit to address his cheater problem on Rust instead of finding a proper solution that would probably involve a way too costly rebuild of key services.
GoG also sold the modern hitman games which have DRM.
There are also many games on Steam that are DRM free, you may need to use the Steam Client to download them (but possibly also Steam CMD) but then you can copy the files off as a backup and run them without Steam
Only jumped in a few times now, had a pretty good experience so far, PvP has been not too bad, I've been shot a few times, but when people see I don't return fire they chill out.
I did get killed once inside the extraction elevator, bit as I had already closed the doors it counted as a clean exit and I got a couple of achievements for leaving while downed, and leaving with another player, so maybe they were doing me a favour 😅
So far, so good, buy I don't really see anything more interesting than CoD DMZ or The Circle, so I don't think this will hold my attention
Still playing Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, I'm in Master Rank 5* missions now and slowly grinding through, not sure how much farther I'll keep playing, but it's still kind of fun.
I've also been dipping into the original Hades, I bounced off this game before because it was so grindy, buy I'm following some build guides now and I've managed to defeat Hades once, so I'll stick with it some more.
