  • I watched The Banshees of Inisherin and I really liked it. I went in totally blind. I was a little uneasy that it would turn into a shock horror movie, but from what little I'd heard it wasn't that sort of film. Literally all I knew is that it was mentioned positively several times in an online thread about something else. And indeed it did get a little gory and intense, but not to a level that, for example, my mother wouldn't be able to take. But it was funny, and well-acted, and beautifully shot. And beautiful production design. As a woodworker I want to meet their chair consultant. A lot of the textiles, too...I liked it enough that I looked up the writer/director, Martin McDonagh, and it turns out he made In Bruges, which I've seen but remember nothing of. So I might rewatch that, and I've already acquired the "billboard" movie as well.

Oof. Good thing I stopped caring about streaks.

  • It's definitely continuous in tone with the last seasons of AT, which is why I think it's an Adam Muto thing. But it feels like it's turned into Doctor Who. (Or what I imagine Doctor Who to be now; I haven't actually watched in a while.) Like, it's fine when you have a world with no rules as to what's possible (because of magic and/or advanced science) if that world is silly, but it makes it hard to generate dramatic stakes if every obstacle is magic bullshit and every solution is also magic bullshit.

  • FC isn’t trying to be AT though. That’s why it works.

I agree, I guess I'm just lamenting that it doesn't work as well for me.

Was unsure about "mother", but it worked out.

  • Man, I was a few episodes into Season 2 of F&C and I made the mistake of watching a season 2 episode of the original series. It was a breath of fresh air. It was the sillyness that got me into AT, and it's hit me how much that's missing in the newer stuff.I don't know much about how production worked, but I suspect it's a Pendleton Ward vs. Adam Muto thing.

  • I'm not sure how it does it, but my Synology NAS can act as a Time Machine server and my laptop backs up to it, no cloud involved. So I know it's possible, but I don't know what kind of open source solutions are available.
