  • Ahh got it. Yeah, that makes sense in that we wouldn't allow a child to do something sexually in a movie.

Again I have not seen the movie and glancing at the wiki didn't make me immediately think there is no way to make this movie in the current times.

  • 8-0!? What the fuck.

  • I still don't understand. I saw the wiki linked earlier as well. Is the claim that a film about a child being sexually abused cannot be made today? Because I don't think that is the case.

Or is it because there would probably be an actor that is 18 cast? I don't see that being a different film. If you want to argue that casting a 16 year old or an 18 year old changes the film, then you could say that not casting Brooke Shields changes the film. It seems like a ship of theseus argument at that point.

If your argument is something else, I'm interested to hear. I had never heard of this film before and have not seen it, so I could very well be missing something.

  • I haven't seen this movie, but are the required changes casting an adult for nudity in the film? Was that not a thing in the 70s?

  • A lot of the blues legends are gone and a large number of Americans would be upset that they hate Illinois Nazis.

  • Through high school we learned both. I took Spanish all 4 years, but had different teachers throughout that time. Most tests and oral exams would allow either, but I do remember some looking specifically for ustedes.

In university we mostly used ustedes, but I had a professor from Spain who would use vosotros. He never expected us to use it but everyone was expected to understand it when reading or in conversation.

  • Are the incentives still going on that made it $20k and not $30k?

  • US athletes should have to compete as unaffiliated or independent or whatever they call it.

  • Good. Glad people are becoming aware that they were conned.

I worry that without some deprogramming that they will just be taken in by the next right wing demagogue.

  • Maybe I'm too Usian to understand this but the article doesn't call out tourists from any particular country. So it's odd to me that China is being called out so much in the comments.

  • Justice

  • Yeah, this is another division that could be taken advantage of.

Unfortunately, it's tough to really communicate with right wingers because they are so cut off from reality and just consume Fox, Newsmax, Joe Rogan, etc.

  • That's how I see this as well. It's a shot across the bow much like the one day strike in MN.

Many people in the US have no experience participating in this sort of thing. I hope that this is a wake up call for the citizenry as much as for the corporations and oligarchs running the country.

  • You Should Know @lemmy.world

YSK that a general strike is one of the most effective ways to push for change. There is a general strike in the works across the US for this Friday.

  • This isn't someone who voted for Trump waking up to reality and saying they regret it. This isn't someone who sees the error in their ways and making amends.

This is a coward. It takes no courage to quit a race while still defending a murderer like Jonathan Ross.

    Fuck this guy.

  • Take care of yourself. Glad you caught it early.

  • Anarchy is explicitly against "profits".

  • I think it's unfair to have troops deployed in Washington DC. They took a gamble by joining and I can empathize with that. But them complying is furthering the fascist agenda.

  • That's exactly why I posted that.
