  • If a dendrology subreddit can exist under the name "marijuanaenthusiasts" then you can probably call your comm "fuck the man" without worries

  • I don't know much about him, but isn't he actually a pretty nice, genuine guy? Like, I get that he does the character for children, but other than that I've heard good things.

Definitely more respectful of people and local culture than most influencers.

  • I've actually made it a point during conversations to not google these types of questions, and asked others to do so too. If we're having a conversation, I'd much rather discuss or speculate on the topic than just straight up Google it.

It sounds weird - let's just talk about it rather than finding out the exact, precise answer - but that's what makes a conversation fun.

  • This is not for you.

  • Thank you!

I think it might be due to the fact that it's quite overexposed. I read that negatives work better when overexposed, so I did that as an experiment (this might have been, like, +1.5-2).

  • Then again, I've seen people use "DG" (Dolce & Gabbana) or "YSL" (Yves Saint Laurent). If you're not in a perfume-and-makeup-specific-community then using these as acronyms makes zero sense.

Again, YKK is definitely an exception because I have a feeling no one would know what the hell you're talking about if you used "Yoshida Kōgyō Kabushikigaisha" lol

  • You're downvoted to oblivion and even though I've heard of YKK, I completely agree.

It pisses me off when I have to google an acronym every 2 sentences.

  • I unironically want a whole novel like this

  • Not really. The point is not to search for something specific, but rather get a bigger context for the thing you're trying to understand. AI tools will take your prompt and create keywords to grep the codebase, then analyze the results and give you an overview.

It's not "find x" and then the AI just does "grep x". It's more like "where do susbcribed users get redirected when logging with Google OAuth" and the AI does "grep google|oauth|isSubscriber" and from the 100s of results give you an overview of specific lines of code which are responsible for that chain of events.

I could definitely do that myself (and have, for many years), but this is just faster and easier.

  • Finally a voice of reason. My work "mandates" the use of AI, but in reality they just bought everyone subscriptions and it's up to you how you use it. I've found it to be irreplaceable for understanding our giant legacy codebase. I'd rather ask it to grep the codebase a few times and get an answer in 5 minutes than spend 10x the amount of time looking through the code for function calls, definitions, conditional blocks etc. It's not perfect, but it helps tremendously.

  • The oil prices are affecting us in Europe too. Gas is getting wayyy more expensive. My car also isn't very fuel-efficient...

And I think this is wonderful news if it teaches that fuckface a valuable lesson.

  • I read it and found it rather revealing. Some of the ideas sound obvious in retrospect, but hearing them laid out like that helps. It was quite funny too.
