  • how old are you? you shouldn't be depending on your father if he is 78. he should be depending on you.

i really do not understand people who are parent dependent beyond the age of say 24.... seriously, grow up and learn to self-actualize.

people get old. people get sick. people get ill. people die. you don't have a choice in the matter. it's your job to make sure they get the care and resources they need. it's time for you to go look up care facilities for your dad, get power of attorney, and start managing his affairs for him.

  • they want a cheat code.

they want 1000 pages of information, with all the detail, but only want to have to read 10 pages.

this person repeatedly asks variations of this question. they are a lazy butt who just doesn't want to put in the effort to learn things they want to learn.

instead of just like... doing what they want to do. they'd rather sit around and whine about it's hard to do it.

  • a lot of people have very naive and oversimplified views of the world/internet.

and rather than learn about how complex things are, they reject the very notion of complexity and retreat to their black and white viewpoints that often serve to dehumanize anyone who doesn't agree with their simplified viewpoints on everything.

  • They never had it to begin with.

  • this is the only relevant advice/comment in this thread.

this person is clearly posting with either paranoid delusion and/or delusions of grandeur

  • At least I could die knowing I tried my best.

Right, and who is to say the people you judge weren't trying their best? I'm confident JK Rowling, the favorite punching bag in these threads, is trying her very best.

The irony of so many people these days is they feel INFINITE GRACE should be given to them, but NONE given to others. It baffles my mind.

  • yeah, noticed a lot of this nonsense lately. also people who post something, don't get answers they like, so they delete, then they repost it a few hours later and the cycle repeats.

  • I just block people who repeated post rage-bait and other low hanging stupid nonsense.

They are just here to troll and/or they are really dumb people, both of which do not contribute anything positive to my experience. It's also one thing if it's like once a month or something, vs every other day.

When I mod I do similar and one of the reasons I got so sour on reddit was many of my communities just devolved into nextdoor like bullshit.

  • you aren't that important.

the sooner you realize this, the happier your entire life will be.

  • Nothing. I don't get disturbed by media. I'm a bit baffled by people who do, especially fiction.

I get disturbed by real people in my real life though, but usually once that happens I distance myself as much as possible.

  • yes, but legally they hold the rights.

  • it's not about thinking, it's about not 'feeling yucky'.

and not being around 'yucky people' who are OK yuckiness in life, because they might make you feel yucky.

  • so what happens in 50 years when the people then read your internet comments and find them problematic?

  • what about the piece of shit's estate? those their shittness end with their life, or does it perpetuate though their family or other estate holders?

  • yes. because the point of the belief is that it's 'icky' and you dont' want any of the 'ick' on you.

and anyone who has any 'ick' on them, knowingly or unknowingly, might get some on you.

it's a moral purity belief structure that assumes the bad ideas/beliefs/actions are somehow transmissible to you.

  • The problem is most people here treat it as a moral panic.

If artist is bad, the work is bad, and anyone who likes it is bad. And we plus purge ourselves of this 'badness' at all costs and anyone who associates with it, because it 'infects' you with 'impurity'.

It's not a rational thoughtful thing, it's taking your fear and projecting it into hostility and weaponizing it. Best way to not be judged is to judged others as harshly as possible to deflect any possibility of your own purity being questioned.

It can't just be... a basic feature of life. People are wrong, people make mistakes, art is imperfect, contexts change over time.

I think my favorite part is these are the same people who look back at history 400 years ago and try to morally judge it with contemporary standards... as if the same thing won't be done to them in 400 years...

  • yes, you're suppose to do that.

that's why it's virtue signalling. you are supposed to signal to your newfound virtue by going through a public denunciation of what you once enjoyed, and you can take it further by declaring how BETRAYED you are by this and how you are retroactively full of guilty and shame for ever having enjoyed their work.

The problem is your a well-adjusted person who doesn't tons of free time to agonize over ranking your moral purity compared to strangers on the internet and post about it on social media, as well as going around harassing others who don't agree with you. Everyone knows 'good' people must go around virtually burning the heretics. And the 'bad' people are the ones who just enjoy their lives without a compulsion to agonizing about everyone's moral standing compared to their own.

  • sometimes it's neither, and people read their own beliefs onto things, or they disliked it for a petty reason and need to make up a more substantial reason because they don't want to seem petty to other people.

  • exactly. i just had to block a moron who tried to argue with me how wrong i was and how stupid i was for not agreeing with them... when my comment said i don't tolerate people lecturing me about how wrong i am.

something 90% of comments I get here these days are idiots who didn't read what i said and feel the compulsion to lecture me about how stupid I am by putting words in my mouth and arguing against them.

they are basically shadowing boxing against their own imaginations. but a lot of people here are living far more in their own imaginary perfect moral universe and get VERY upset that other people aren't them.
