  • Most people actually pronounce it closer to "pâ", which is the way the french settlers pronounced it. The loss of the sound "â" in France happened in the last century. Québec kept a few sounds that are now mostly lost in Europe. Also, some regions of France sometimes have the same pronunciation as Québec for these words. Look here : https://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/pas#Prononciation , the "Hauts-de-France" recording is pretty much the same as in Québec. Not too surprising considering that most french settlers that went to America were from the north of France.

    An other example of that, is the word "pâte" (pasta or paste, \pɑt\). Most french people pronounce it exactly the same way as "patte" (paw, \pat\). They lost the "ability" to pronounce the accent on the "â".   • It did, but the other way around. French people had a lot of influence in the last centuries from their proximity with other European countries, while Québec was secluded and resisted the english assimilation, that's why the accent varies a lot. So french canadians speak a french somewhat closer to the language spoken centuries ago than modern French people do.Compared to american and traditional english, there aren't as many words that are written differently, as french is more "organised" as a language, so there generally isn't a need for a distinction. Most differences are a matter of pronunciation. In the end, it's all the same language, even if a few words are sometimes used differently.

  • You could do that on Xbox 360 too. I did. Also, the game they gave "for free" with the xbox live subscription went from "keep it forever" to "keep it as long as you pay". They would have probably started with that system sooner, but the Xbox 360 market didn't support game rental like that.

  • Just saying, the Xbox 360 doesn't have that problem, since buying a game gives a license to both the account and the console it has been bought on. So even if you get banned, your console should still be able to play the game with an other account. Of course they "patched" it with the Xbox One.

  • I think the point is that since these dollars are borrowed, they must eventually be repaid with interest, so on the long run, they will be removed from the economy and they don't produce inflation like if it was free money. Now, if the government can just allow itself to get a greater amount of debt every few years and only pay the interest, it may lose its meaning...

  • Well, the text says "you could actually get deflation because there will be so much abundance produced". There is some reality where this is true, as increasing the monetary mass would do nothing if the economy (the amount of goods and services produces) increases proportionally. But I wouldn't bet on a universal basic income increasing the country's production.Also, only the rich and upper-middle class would suffer from inflation. Poor people's financial situation would still improve.

  • Achtually, a gas-powered car isn't that far from an airplane in terms of CO2 emission per kilometer per person. But planes allow for long distance travels that you would never consider doing by car. It also depends how many people are in the car. Planes also produce more non-CO2 pollutants.If you were to choose between driving X km alone in your car or take a plane to the same destination, both options' environmental impact would be quite close. But with carpooling, the car rapidly becomes a less bad option.
