Engineer. Retro console modder. Pen and watch enthusiast.

  • What if we kept them underground. We could build a city above it. It would be a hub for trade, exchanging methane for other goods. We could call it Bartertown.

  • Now I'm being chased by some irate velociraptors. Well, believe me, this has been one lousy day.

  • Yes, of course! Twist them, eat the filling, then dip the cookie halves in milk until they nearly disintegrate.

  • Sometimes! Most of the time I just use my toothbrush. But either way, I absolutely clean my tongue every day.

  • Another perspective, it's ONLY FOUR buttons? It's emulating a computer, surely there are games that require more keyboard support. You could play a C64 emulator on a Nintendo DS, and you would still get the same form factor, the same button layout, the right screen ratio, AND a virtual keyboard on the lower screen.

  • Other than the form factor, why is this needed? There are tons of cheap linux handhelds that play these games. And if you like the form factor, there have been C64 and ZX emulators for the Nintendo DS for ages. Emulators that are old enough to drive at this point. I mean, if the price point was closer to $40, I could see it. $60 would be pushing it.

Plus, it tics one of my pet peeves of having a 16:9 screen for a specifically 4:3 media.

  • New Vegas is around 470 for me. FO4 is a close second at 460. But I probably spent way, way more time in Battlezone 2, possibly MechWarrior 3 as well. Maybe Rollercoaster Tycoon. Those were in my peak gaming era.

  • As it should be.

  • Yeah, pretty much. Mechanical engineer, but on the tooling side of things and not production. When shit hits the fan, it's typically during office hours. Honestly, I haven't even charged my work phone in probably 6 months because it's so rare anybody needs me when I'm not at my computer.

But my personal phone is always on silent, too. Not even vibrate. To the irritation of my wife.

  • Ah, now that makes sense.

  • No thank you.

  • I just wear a mechanical watch and keep my phone on silent 100% of the time. I'll look at it eventually.

  • I prefer to have dumb, discrete devices in near all cases. TV, appliances, bulbs AND switches. Watches (mechanical only, please). I don't connect any game consoles to the internet. I can't think of any devices that actually need "smart" features.

  • Interesting. How do you plan on patching them?

  • Question about gagh. Is it seasoned? Or sauced? Or is it just plain serpent worms? Because that doesn't seem like much of a delicacy. Sounds pretty low effort, actually.

  • I meant TNG, but you're right I should just watch both.

  • I was just thinking about that episode! Guess it means I need to watch it again.

  • It was. Pre-Conway Twitty and stupid chicken fight sequences.

  • I've been playing it on my potato tablet that I revived with Linux recently. It's basically the only game that runs on it. Well, only thing better than Solitaire or Mahjongg. It's really impressive, takes me back to my Compaq LTE 5300 and playing RCT when it was new.
