Big fan of SBC gaming, open source engine recreations/source ports, gaming in general, alternative operating systems, and all things modding.

I am still using Lemmy but have been using it intermittently for about a year now. If you have questions or concerns about a community I am moderating please send me a message and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

  • I tried running xev through the terminal and I can see the left click and touchpad movement but nothing when the right click is pressed and depressed.

In the "Mouse and Touchpad" settings in XFCE there is a click method option that I think is supposed to allow you to click right click when using multiple fingers but kind of like what you mentioned but that doesn't seem to work either.

I appreciate your response! I am tempted to reach out to NexDock about this but I don't know if they would have much to say considering it's not a hardware issue and no one else really seems to be talking about it.

Edit: Considering I can have touchpad's "Tap touchpad to click" and "Click method" disabled under the touchpad option and still click things I am wondering if maybe it's use a weird combination of the touchpad for movement and the mouse actual clicking. This is the 2025 version of the NexDock.

  • Are neckties and polo shirts a thing?

I can only really picture a car sales person or Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia wearing it

  • If you are really sold on the idea of consoles then don’t discount modding an older system like an Xbox 360 or PS3, once they are set up you can just pick a game and go.

https://consolemods.org/wiki/Main_Page is a good starting point if OP is interested in going in that direction.

  • I believe it also requires you to have an individual as a contact to synchronize messages.

  • Personally you need to decided what features are important to you. From my understanding anything connected to Meta requires logging into Facebook to use. For me that is a big no not to mention that I’m a linux user.

That reminds me of Oculess. I've never really looked too much into it but I wonder how well it works.

  • I don't know if that will be necessary if this is all the same network. I saw a couple posts mentioning VPNs and reverse proxies but they were all for accessing the network remotely.

Kind of similar but I thought VLANs might work as well but all I could really find online was people separating branches their network using them.

    I appreciate the comment though.

How can I configure Fresh Tomato to act as an access point so I can access Samba shares on the other side?

  • When I run inxi -G I get the following output

It seems like I am using the laptops integrated graphics. I don't think it has any nvidia graphics.

  • The Sims @lemmy.world

What was your experience using the Create a World tool or custom worlds in general in The Sims 3?

  • Thanks for replying.

Most of the information I’m finding about this flavour of arch doesn’t reveal much about libreboot’s role in this issue. I’m not familiar with the device and online results are vague about what the specs are.

My main thought is If you’re using a Nvidia GPU or other proprietary software to run hardware, did you reinstall its software after changing the kernel? I’m not sure if your distro automatically does that for you.

I do not believe I reinstalled any Nvidia drivers but I am unsure. I do have the linux-firmware-nvidia package installed. I am just using the integrated graphics that are on the X200S. Maybe that's part of the issue considering it released around 2008?

Are you using shim for anything?

I’m wondering if something went funny with your mok enrolment or if it failed to use the key to sign the module? Could test by temporarily disabling secure boot. (But would continue to fail if not the problem; such as the modules are compiled against the wrong kernel)

If by shim you are referring to the EFI preloader I do not have it installed.

My other thought was that I’m under the impression that endeavourOS uses pinned versions and swapping out the kernel puts you in an undefined state.

You might have some luck jailing it on an working os with the configuration you desire and regenerating the boot files. Same idea as using the rescue environment on a livecd. The last time I had this idea it was a big waste of effort. When I realized I could just roll back using a backup.

I am not too sure about how to test this.

Edit: maybe the drive is dying try testing it?

I have my doubts that it is the drive considering it seems to work fine within initramfs. I can run my X200S for days without issues as long as I boot that way.

  • techsupport @lemmy.world

EndeavourOS only booting from initramfs after update. Could use some help figuring out why

  • Fallout @lemmy.world

What's the status of the various fan-made Fallout game remakes?

  • It kind of sounds like they're just trying to be GOG but maybe with some non-PC games.

I wonder if they're going to take a game, bundle it with an emulator, and make some kind of launchable shortcut.

I can't really see them dealing out source-port like games

  • The Powkiddy V90 is pretty good if you want a GBA SP form factor.

If they already have some kind of handheld it might easy to mod their device or get them a flashcart. Like the 3DS or DS for example.

  • It may not be entirely what you are looking for but there are a lot of portable emulators out there like RG35XXSP for example that can do video out and allow you to pair multiple controllers.

You can set a lot of them to boot directly into a game and some even have kid modes where they can't alter the settings.

  • Outer Worlds. Not really a spoiler but it felt linear as hell up until the very end

  • What went wrong with Far Cry 6? I've heard it's pretty mid and I haven't heard much about it since which leads me to assume it's not even memorably bad or good

  • I was holding out hope until recently that things would be improved with updates kind of like No Man's Sky or through DLC like what Phantom Liberty did for Cyberpunk 2077.

I haven't read a lot of reviews because I like going into games blind but from what I've heard a lot of the issues really seem baked into the core of the game.

Does anyone know how to set the real time clock in PlumOS on the GXD Pixel 2? Is PlumOS still the best option?

  • Do you find you switch back and forth between games quite often?

  • the screen hoopla shouldn’t have happened in the first place if they just ignore the 4:3 purists :P

    What was the issue there?

  • Mind doing a side shot? I'd be curious to see how thick they are compared to each other.

Also do the sticks and buttons touch the screen? I thought I heard that was an issue with some clamshell handhelds. Whoever the reviewer was I believe speculated it may ware down the screen protector.

  • Maybe the blog that is hosted on a Nintendo Wii. It's not the most practical hack but I find console modding really neat and the "because I can" style projects are particularly fascinating to me.

Some other favorite hacks are a bit more practical and have to do with extending the life of existing products. RebbleOS, for example, is an open source firmware that took off after Pebble shutdown following their acquisition by FitBit in 2016. It's allowed people to continue using their e-ink Pebble watches largely unchanged. They can still do things like fetch the weather and voice dictation.
