  • The problem is that at that point all of the ceos and middle managers will have drunk the coolaid and won't be able to hire people fast enough to make up the difference.

  • .world admins are a "both sides are the same" instance and will equate the atrocities of one side with the resistance of the other. I find myself constantly checking to see which instance I'm on before commenting. I didn't even realize I have been banned on certain .world communities for my comments and nothing of value was lost.

Lemmy (the platform) of today is very different than that from even a year ago. Many parallel community on alternate instances exist, albeit with varying levels of activity. While most people may start on .world, I'd be interested to know how many stay there.

I'm supportive of this action and would encourage.

  • So many people in this thread aren't getting how we got here.

It's not about understanding. Flouride conspiracy, raw milk, et al all have a a tinge of truth to them but they also have a larger cognitive bias and that is that it allows people to buck government regulations.

This is "rules for thee but not for me" wrapped up in pseudoscience. These people benefited from flouride, pasteurized milk, regulated beef, etc. but believe that the over reaching government is holding back their freedom. This is about conservatives wanting to push their policies at the detriment to the population because conservatism is that they must be the group that pushes the rules and never have to be bound by them.

    This is ultimately about oppression.

No amount of education will fix the empathy they lack.

  • All it will take is one billionaire hitting another plane.

  • Heroes

    Jump
  • In the future, do Disney movies. Then report it to Disney. They protect their IP with extreme prejudice.

  • WW3 will only occur if the US attacks a country that is capable of actually hitting the mainland.

  • Because late stage capitalism, lobbyists pushed legislators to allow data collection so that it can be sold to insurance companies who also lobbied so that they can charge more for premiums.

    Every company makes more profit.

We don't live in a democracy anymore.

  • I pitched the idea of an AI clock at a meeting once. Basically you ask what time it is and the AI checks it's LLM and then confidently tells you the time it thinks.

    Now, do you believe it?

Take it a step further and have AI set meetings for you or tell you what is on your calendar.

Do you trust it or do you check your calendar?

The amount of trust we are putting into a machine that is effectively a probability script is mind boggling.

People keep telling me "That's not how you're supposed to use it."

And I keep having to remind them, "But that's how it works."

  • To nitpick further, this is a consequence of unregulated capitalism and at this point the people who control it don't have an incentive to change it.

The system is working as intended.

We need to destroy it if we want anything to change.

  • The only way this will happen is through violence, and even then it's not a guarantee.

    • conservative South loss against the north in the civil war and there were no reparations or punishment.
    • Nixon came the closest to being impeached and charges were dropped as soon as he resigned, despite the fact that the votes were there. We was then fucking pardoned because "we need to move on."
    • fucking TRUMP will "learn his lesson" for forcing Ukraine to provide opposition research on Biden in exchange for security.
    • TRUMP again when he literally caused people to storm the capitol.
    • when Biden was in office, house refused to even push more impeachment talks because "he's not president anymore" and then got Pikachu faced when he ran again.
    • when Trump finally was found guilty in New York, the judge fucking gave him no jail time.

Democrats refuse to hold Republicans accountable and we need to start acting like they are part of the problem.

  • If the goal is to reduce speeding, road design plays more of a factor more than cameras.

A fine means that it's a revenue grab.

  • it's not about State's rights!

"Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect."

Southern conservatives wanted "State's rights" to own slaves but wanted federal government to return runaway slaves back to the south.

Republicans scream about trans fem people using woman's bathroom because they are perverts and then demand people show their genitals before using the bathroom.

It's state's rights for them. Federal laws for you.

The more people believe their narrative, the less focus there is on the true mission: oppression.

  • I have a structured annuity but I need to bribe now. But I also don't want people to know that I've done anything illegal.

  • I was at a dinner and sat near a guy who didn't know what this election was about.

Me: The amendment allows Virginia to redraw maps to counter-act the maps that Republicans are drawing in other states

Guy: gerrymandering is already bad. Why should we make people in Virginia suffer for what's happening elsewhere?

Me: because gerrymandering is what's making Republicans stay in power.

    Guy: what's wrong with that?

Me: because they are being assholes

Guy: but they were voted in.

Me: but after gerrymandering illegally I might add. Democratic states are trying to level the playing field.

Guy: just because Democrats do it legally doesn't make it any less wrong.

The exchange told me everything I needed to know about the guy.

  • Vince Gilligan was born in Richmond!

  • I hear this argument a lot. "Voters should be trusted."

    Voters gave us Trump.

Once you have power, you don't want to let it go. It doesn't matter if you are elected every two years or every four. You have power and as you stay in office you accumulate more and more power. In theory it's to help your constituents but in the end it corrupts.

We can decide that that people shouldn't be career politicians. We can go encourage these people that they can still serve the public by doing other things besides holding office.

  • I'm on record saying Sanders should retire.

He fought the good fight. The best thing he can do is to endorse someone young to take his place.

We need more young people to get into politics.

  • Depends on the purpose of the safe.

I have a fire safe for all my important documents (life insurance, will, birth certificate, etc).
