Hmm... I might have to look into the WhatsApp issue as I still need it for work, friends and family (not my choice). Do you think it makes any difference if the bootloader is still locked? I think /e/OS devices from FP come locked.
She is still at school and the article states that she has missed two weeks of classes already ahead of her final exams. There is a quote from the headteacher of her school stating “She is currently missing taught lessons across all subjects and is at risk of missing important assessments, including GCSE exams.”
In this case it's not just 'framing' but an important detail.
Someone once said "don't let perfection be the enemy of good" ... or something like that.
Anyway, my point is it's good that this kind of stuff is starting to get into mainstream media, even if they don't go into as much detail as they could.
They might not have wanted to scare people off by giving them too much information all at once, especially things like the Fediverse which even lots of tech savvy people don't really understand.
It works fine for me. When you changed servers, did you also change countries? Sometimes all the servers in a country will claim I am connected when I can't access anything and changing to a different country fixes the problem.
Based on your description of the proposed law, I think it's unlikely. That sounds more like intercepting internet communication which probably wouldn't be done on individual computers unless you were being specifically targeted.
I think the Linux Mint organization is based in Ireland but its contributers are from around the world. It's also open source so any embedded spyware in the code would be discovered quite quickly.
This can also be achieved just by changing DuckDuckGo's settings using the menu in the top-right corner of the page and can turn off other things including adverts if you want to.
Describing volume dials as "retro" is setting a very low bar for what can be considered retro.
Also, it should have been super obvious to car makers from the start that using a touchscreen for almost everything was a really bad idea! As others have pointed out, you need to be able to control the car without having to take your eyes off the road for more than a couple of seconds.
Birth of a Nation is also the name of a well known film which is notorious for containing racist stereotypes and portraying white supremacists as heroes. Fledgling Nation is good though.
Most of them are quite realistic and would probably pass for real at a glance, but they all have flaws once you start looking.
Top-left: Her earrings don't appear to be attached to her ears. Bottom-left: The facial structure, eyes and lighting are manga style.
Top-middle: This is the most natural looking one, but it looks like there might be issues with the hair strands on the left not being properly blended with the rest of the image if it was larger. Bottom-middle: If this was presented as a picture of a cosplayer as a video game character then I would 100% think it was real.
Right: Passable. Even though her arm could be obscured by the folds of her dress like that in a real photo, it just looks a bit odd which is an immediate red flag.
(I'm gonna look real dumb if you're trolling us with real photos! 😅 )
There's a graph on the linked page, but I'm not quite sure what to make of it. According to the overall trend "SteamOS Holo 64 bit" seems to be decreasing but "Arch-based" (which is also what SteamOS is) seems to be the one that is going up the most. Fedora has only recently started being tracked, but they probably came under "Other" before.
This is the equivalent of "aww, don't worry buddy... you'll get it next time". In other words, how you might treat a child (apologies to any children for the comparison).
This negotiating tactic is particularly smart because even though it can be used to gain favor with Trump/US, the final decision of who gets the prize is out of their control so someone else can be blamed if he doesn't get it.
