Guy who finished a law degree for some reason. I didn't mean to, it just kinda happened

  • Anyone know how to drain a kitchen sink that's been fucked over by storms? Damn thing stopped draining water today. The last time I did washing up was three days ago, and I draino'd it yesterday.

UPDATE: Cleaned out the sink, pulled apart the pipes and cleaned them too, still not draining properly. Wandered outside to dump a fucktonne of dirty sink water, and found a great big fuck off pool of old water and shit that had flooded out of the grate downstairs. The storm dumped somewhere around 20mm of rain directly on my side of the building, so best guess is the pipes flooded.

Notes for those wondering: second floor apartment in a small, two storey block of units - 70s style brick flats. Toilet and shower are on their own pipes, with kitchen sink and washing machine on the other set (the flooded one). My next stop I believe is the agent, as this is well outside of my control. Hopefully though it all drains out over the next couple days - I don't own a dishwasher, so dishes have gotta be done by hand.

  • Y'know, if America gets to have military bases in Australia, and gets to arbitrarily decide to go to war in a way that fucks us over, and gets to influence the outcome of our elections in ways that benefit them, I really reckon we should get a say in their elections, too.

    It's only fair.

  • Nothing better than waking up to the smell of smoke, only to find out it's actually just the otways fire and your flat isn't sealed at all against particulates from outside.

  • Agreed. Really appreciate it, fingers crossed all goes well.

  • Won't lie, definitely considering completely slacking off between now and my last day. After all, they don't intend to keep me, so why put my all in?

  • Thanks mate. It'll be rough seas for a minute, but I'll find something.

  • Second day back at work, called into boss's office and told they're not renewing my contract into a permanent role. Two years at this workplace, pushing myself to my absolute limit, but I guess because I don't regularly work past 5 (coming in well before anyone else mind you), I'm not keeping my job.

It'll be fine in the long run. We have some savings. But goddamn. Not looking forward to going on Jobseeker, hopefully I can get something quick.

  • Mernda/Hurstbridge lines broken, recommend walking home

  • That's actually perfect, mate! We've never been, but it's definitely the right vibes for what I initially planned to do! Thank you so much for your help!

  • That's an excellent point, thanks mate! Edited the above, but we're in the inner north, Mernda/Hurstbridge train lines.

  • Hey fellow Lemmylings(?). Last week I did Run Melbourne and managed to cut open my foot whilst running (not sure how), limiting my ability to walk. Thing is, I was going to propose to my partner on Saturday and was going to do it during a hike to one of our favourite places.

Given I can't walk, that's not all that doable anymore. Annoyingly I've booked various other things around the engagement.

Any ideas for proposals that wouldn't require significant walking? We don't have our own transport, but are willing to Uber if need be. Thanks everyone!

EDIT: We're in the Inner North on the Mernda/Hurstbridge train lines.

  • Flinders trains broke, anyone know why?

UPDATE: Trespasser in the Richmond area, big delays. If you want to get home in a reasonable time, recommend walking, which will probably be faster.

  • Anyone know what happened on the Mernda line? Trains are delayed around 15 - 20 minutes and just kinda stuck that way.

    How good is RTO?

  • Australian here, we're in the shit. A good chunk of our rural voters support the LNP (who are doing everything they can to copy Trump). Universal healthcare has been slashed down to an inch of its life, and employment prospects are terrible for most everyone under 50.

If you're looking to escape the rise of facism, don't. Come. Here. We're lockstepping with the US and unless our upcoming election goes beautifully, we'll get even worse.

  • Anyone know exactly what's happening on the Hurstbridge/Mernda line? After the day I've had (boss informed us we're going back to office full-time for reasons of "productivity"), last thing I need is to spend ten bucks for a borked train line

  • Well, I first played Dragon Age Origins with the framerate fluctuating between 10 and 20 FPS. Wasn't the most fun I've ever had, but ever since 30 - 60 felt like luxury. So yeah, anywhere from 10 to 30 is fine for me, but the more active a game is the closer to 30 minimum with a target of 60

  • Discovered little bit ago that the recycling truck didn't take our bin because some dickhead parked directly in front of it. Starting this fortnight with an already full yellow bin, only 13 days to go until it gets emptied.

  • Apparently blackouts are kicking off in the northern suburbs. Stay safe everyone!

  • Veilguard was excellent, but it pissed off bigots and now it's outright unsafe to speak positively about it on the other site.

  • Partner tells me there's a pair of twenty-something (potentially teenage) boys knocking on people's doors and loudly talking in the Northcote area.

If they are casing houses (ours is a block of flats and we almost never get doorknockers), and she didn't open the door for them, do we have anything to worry about?
