There were reports last month of Navy members getting steak and lobster, which is usually a pizza index type notifier that war is about to happen. With over a million people in the US armed forces, there's things I'm a lot more pissed off about then them having a fancy meal
To add to the (absolutely accurate) commentary in the rest of the thread, this hits on a something Grabber talks about in Bullshit Jobs. Almost universally, the jobs that are the most important to society actually functioning are the ones that pay the least (with the one notable exception of physicians). There's this idea that you should be "grateful" to have such an important job, and that's in a way almost part of your pay. See also nurses, elderly care providers, daycare employees, anyone who works for a charity. People in charge use this "moral capital" as a way to convince you to take less actual money

I love x minus one! I listened to it as an audiobook forever ago, so cool that it's available for free now! One of my favorite was "Nightfall," based on an Isaac Asimov story
I liked the movie as a standalone thing, but my one big ick with the adaptation is them changing the core message. V is an anarchist, someone who thinks that order can exist without government. The word anarchy is never even mentioned in the movie, and the key takeaway in the film is that "governments should be afraid of their people, not the other way around," a message that still implies governments should exist.
Some lawyers made a video explaining that if the evidence was likely to have been found in a legal search anyways, it can usually still be admitted. I also ANAL
Lots of people mentioning high BPM music, I'm gonna drop where I got my username from: the 1970s funk band Parliament. While not high BPM, there's usually several instruments playing completely different melodies at the same time in a way that really scratches my ADHD brain. It's made me develop a theory that high musical throughput is the secret to ADHD musical enjoyment -- funk is the very wide pipe compared to the high pressure pipe that is high BPM.
That's the date the first enslaved Africans arrived in Virginia?
