  • I accidentally made, like, 6 accounts, each on a different instance when first joining Lemmy because I didn't understand what federation in the field of decentralization meant LOL. Since I learned, I just kept them and have since rotated through them, partly for an illusory sense of slightly added privacy, but mostly to try to mitigate the blow of the loss of any one account in case its instance goes kaput for any reason. I guess it also gives the added benefit of Lemmy appearing more active lol (but I never comment on my own posts nor comments; that'd be wild).

Basically, if someone's response to me was interesting and I wanted to reference it later, a unified inbox would solve the problem of having to recall which account was involved.

  • lol I guess I dodged the instability because I was using it on Windows all these years up until a few months ago, where it was mostly fine!

  • Man, I totally forgot about that scene.

  • Please tell me those circular lines actively swirl behind the silhouette. Please, please, pleeeeaase...

  • no worrying about updating or not updating

What? Isn't the entire AUR attack a vast net of worry cast on all update managers and the digital supply chain? Linux has suddenly become much riskier to use in recent years, even as it's also steadily improved otherwise. We need to be just as brutally honest about its pitfalls as much as we can praise it over its strengths, lest we deceive ourselves and others.

  • Hey man, they gave us Kdenlive. That thing has singlehandedly taken down Sony VEGAS Pro and so many other worse, closed-source, commercial video-editing programs. If you dislike Dolphin, find any one of the other thousands of file managers, but don't attack KDE.

  • Well... I guess not everyone's as smart as you, then.

  • Fair, I think I've heard of that one, but never tried it. Thanks for the links!

  • Ooh, I really like "AutoVac!"

  • Exactly, agreed!

  • Wow, well, that nails in the coffin for sure; I can't stand TBoI's atmosphere (I just think the environment is disgusting lol), don't really care about arena shooters much, and I typically hate action points which is why I could never tolerate anything remotely X-COM-like for long. Thanks for the heads-up!

  • Hmm... which would you recommend?

  • Oh, yeah, how's Molly been? Does it actually add any features or is it just purely telemetry-stripped Signal? People warned against it due to security update-lagging, so I never got around to trying it...

  • Okay, well, good to know. This has been going on and off for probably two weeks now, I'd say.

  • The Signal messenger and protocol. @lemmy.ml

Is the Android app crashing for anyone else?

  • Even for a gamer like me, Bazzite ran so horribly on my PC that it wouldn't even open a Steam window. I could right-click the tray icon and see the context menu, but actually picking any of the options yielded nothing; no window ever popped up. It was so frustrating that I left shortly.

  • Dang, I thought about Atomic Heart... Good thing I never went for it, I guess.

  • Man, Anomaly had soooo many bugs that I just couldn't get through even probably half of it (no idea of the length of the storyline). It had a lot of cool ideas but the execution even as of 1.5.x (can't remember by now) just worsened the farther I went, particularly with NPC teammates who just stood there while I was under attack by factions who they themselves had okay relations with. There were several other issues that were so immersion-breaking that I couldn't keep going.

  • I humbly disagree: worse still is a game that you started but abandoned because that's how bad it was. Any game we haven't tried yet is not definitively proven to be bad yet!

  • Linux @lemmy.ml

Why are so many Linux projects on Microsoft GitHub? Shouldn't they all move to Codeberg?

Over the past month, I've put Linux Mint 22.2 "Zara" on 4 machines and all the owners are happy (with one of them being me)
