  • It's not quite the same because it has a lot less screen estate, but I can 100% recommend Home Buttons. You can either build it yourself (3D printed enclosure, custom PCB) or buy one already built for you. They each fancy an e-ink display you can configure with Material Design Icons (or even custom text in case of the bigger one). They integrate into Home Assistant via MQTT and can be fully used for any automation you would like. You can even change the 4 or 6 button labels using Home Assistant.

  • I have maybe more hours in WoW, but I cannot see my playtime without installing it again.

  • Intellectual property - as in other famous franchises or brands. Think of a Marvel themed game or DLC.

  • I wouldn't say that GitHub is not stable. I hope we will learn what the reason was, I hope at least Tom will get to know what it was and I am sure he will take this into consideration.

Of course I cannot speak for him. My understanding is that he is considering this, but his priority at the moment is to find out and solve the reason for his shadowban on GitHub. Maybe he will move to another platform (I think Codeberg was mentioned once or twice), but changing the platform will no doubt result in additional work that needs to be planned as he is doing this in his spare time. The GitHub situation needs to be solved first as he needs this account also for work as I understand it.

  • The creator's GitHub account is in limbo. He can see everything just normal, but for everyone else it's just a 404. GitHub support is informed but unresponsive.

There is a Matrix chat where the creator posts updates (although there is not much to update): KitchenOwl

There is no reason to believe that the latest version available on Docker Hub (0.7.7) is compromised in any way. If you want to play it safe use 0.7.6 (3 months old).

  • Almost all of them affect authenticated users. The only ones that allow unauthenticated users access are for old versions. So to be honest: I am not that much concerned.

  • May I ask why you consider n8n risky?

  • Why would it break? There are tools out there that haven't seen updates in decades and they still work mostly the same as they did when they were released.

  • Using the stairs is even cheaper (only up to the 2nd level) and you can stop any time on the way up and get some views others most likely will not. It's about 700 steps and doable if you are fit. If you have teenage kids who need to vent some power it is great.

  • If you have a chair or a table that is really wobbly you could use it to balance it out…

  • That's even more annoying than AI itself: Everyone is suddenly an expert and everything is accused of being AI without any reason to believe so…

  • There is one old: Hit the road

Then 3 seasons of Telltale's Sam and Max

And apparently there is a VR title as well…

  • You mean all one of them?

  • Although image generation like we have nowadays with the abundance of AI tools was maybe only thought of in the late 80s, it suffers from the same thing. A generated image can look technically perfect (no misaligned hands, strange architecture or broken texts), but you still can sense it is a generated image - even though the generation tool makes a different image every time. The same way an early replicator may have left some unnaturalness despite it producing a perfectly fine chocolate sundae.

  • I use chore-helper for Home Assistant for that. I chose it because I like the "after x days" vs. the classic "every x days" approach. If I forgot to clean the shower for over a week there is no point to have a reminder the next day after I finally did it, but I want it to happen x days later no matter how long I dragged the previous task.

It hasn't received updates in ages though and can be quite slow and complicated to manage. I want to have a look in ChoreOps to replace it.

  • I like A better. The gap between the preview images on shorter posts looks weird.

  • I haven't watched the video (yet). Here are my guesses:

    • It gets dark (obviously).
    • It gets cold.
    • Astronomers get excited.
    • The missing pressure from sunlight will somehow mess up the planet's rotation around the sun or our atmosphere.
  • The basic workflow of network troubleshooting is:

    1. Check if it's a DNS problem
    2. If not, check why it is a DNS problem anyway, but you failed to recognize it.
  • I feel tricked…

  • Then the feature should be removed. Having it, but making it barely usable is a bad solution.
