Goth, Dj, anarchist, artist

  • For those that love the game like myself. This is the closest thing in recent years. Playing it in VR was nuts.

  • It was good but yeah not as good as the first. And I think the long gap between the two also did not play out in their favor.

  • Yes at this point I'm looking at the hardware trying to decide on what to go with and how to set it up. I would like to have a small open network in my community. Hosting local services Etc. These Technologies stand to greatly democratize large scale networking in war and peacetime.

  • "Oh but they kill the billionaires that cross the Vanguard and redistribute their wealth"

Just not to the people of course. And completely not the point. The point is there should be no millionaires or billionaires or Vanguard. That the Vanguard not only allows it but tends to be buddy buddy with it lets you know they don't stand with you

  • Yeah, he had some decent videos on halow as well. But he wanted people to pay for his instructions on how to set up the stack. If I'm going to be paying for something on that front I want it to do more than tell me how to set the stack up I want it to do it for me. A donation model would have been much more palatable.

You're seriously not going to be making much money of any sort on such a niche thing. You'd seriously get a better return on time and effort to put into it by popularizing and supporting it.

  • A Libertarian walks into a bear, is definitely a good illustration of the absurdity of modern big L Libertarianism. Similar can be said for anarco capitalists. Anarchism and libertarianism both argue for generally flat, stateless societies as a core of their ideology. Something that is completely incompatible with capital, which relies on hierarchies enforced by a state to be viable.

  • Yep, GNOME isn't for me and that's okay. I probably should give it another try some point soon. I think last I tried was 2022. And every significant update several addons would break for days and weeks. Maybe it's gotten better in the last 4 to 5 years. But when it comes to customization I don't need any KDE addons. It just works outside the app menu bar MacOS like setting.

I had a good laugh the other day though about the questionable 14 year old decision that the gnome team made that has left their users confused and unable to log out in many cases.

  • Yeah, DCD is generally more neo-folk in my experience. Cocteau Twins shoegaze and ambient. Which isn't to shun either one or say they aren't goth etc. Just not the epitome of rock. The rest are solid though, kind of omitting ole captain sensible and rat scabies. I'll be damned if I made such a list and left out The Damned.

  • An-caps. All capitalist no anarchist. Yes, they think they exist, and they're the only ones. Mention basic anarchist things like mutual aid etc to them. Anti state/authoritarianism, equality, community solidarity and on and on and on. And any illusion will be instantly shattered. At best they are anti state only when the state negatively impacts them. They are for individual freedom for themselves only. As soon as your freedom encroaches on their privilege, what individual freedom? They will froth at the mouth if you suggest equality or equity.

  • hexbear.net has raised over $1500 for Palestine over the past few weeks

  • Best you got. Weak.

  • Has more direct, violent control of their own people? Sure. Worse than trump and friends? Dunno bout that. Due to trump's malice and incompetence, he's getting people killed in the US as well as abroad. Plenty in Cuba are suffering and dying because of him right now. Africa too. They're both shit and I won't root for either. I certainly won't begrudge them killing our soldiers following illegal orders over there invading at least.

  • Sew

  • How do you find such endless shit takes?

I don't care for Piker because he has a tendency to glaze authoritarians etc. But he's not speaking to those of us in the 50+ demos anyway. Piker regardless of what you think of him has been out in the streets at protests and pickets. He's gone to Cuba to deliver aid. And by boosting groups like PV, he and other streamers like Vaush are doing exactly what you accuse them of not doing. Progressive Victory does the vetting and advocacy, they bring them the audiences. So far it's gone well. And that's the way it should be.

Does Piker say inflammatory and often stupid things to drive views? Absolutely. But then most of the bigger streamers do. Those like Kulinsky or even KC locals like the Vanguard included. I kind of wish they didn't because it makes it tricky to suggest them to others my age etc since it's such an alien tone to most. But again they aren't speaking directly to us. They're speaking to younger generations, on their level. Finding success with new media even as the old media many of us olds are familiar with is dead and rotting.

  • OpenWRT. It's got a slight learning curve. But if you want something guaranteed to do what you want while still being upgradable. It's the solution for you. You can find pre-made Hardware that will run it. Or any old business waste computers that you can gut and rebuild any way you like to make a beast of a router if you want.

  • This is how it's always worked. By the time X gets adopted widely, Y is finalized and being rolled out as they start laying out Z. I was encoding in h.264 in the late 2000 before the iPhone had been released and started standardization on base MP4 part 10 support. H.265 since the mid 2010's. Been encoding AV1 for years at this point. YouTube has used it as their default for a few years now too. Hardware always, always lags way behind.

  • Jolla isn't in the US at least AFAIK. And outside that I'm not really aware of other similar options available here. I'm looking at maybe getting something I can root and wipe to run linux. But that's beyond most people's ability and desire.

  • More than that. Proper, real, hardware. And a bit more UI polish. The software is inching closer. But hardware wise there's very little real option. For the time being my existing android devices are going to be demoted to little more than modems for a small Linux portable. I badly want a real good hardware platform to run a mobile linux distro. I have an octo core ARM chromebook tablet running postmarket. It's a great experience apart from too little RAM. KDE Touch is pretty nice. And sits a bit under 500Mb idle. But the moment Firefox or Chrome launch we're swapping hard.

  • Each new culture definitely makes it their own. And I'm here for it. No po-pooing or gate keeping. There absolutely are many that are unquestioningly "goth". But Japan more than many others has a way of absorbing external cultural entities and making it uniquely theirs. Animation and comic books weren't invented in japan. But we generally identify the ones from japan by their Japanese names because of how different and even unique they are, among animation and comic books broadly.

There absolutely are those into visual-kei that know the standards. Your Bauhaus, Sisters, Siouxie, Cure, etc. The trick is though that you can't assume that of them. There are possibly more that wont. The originators of visual-kei absolutely were influenced by goth and punk. That's just a fact. The rub is visual-kei is visual. Not musical. It's often more about the look than a particular music style. There isn't one sound or musical style for those that fall under visual-kei because of that. Boiling it down to "japan goth" would be an oversimplification and possibly a disservice itself. As much as calling doujin or manga comic books, or anime as just cartoons.

If you want to be a purist, goth never left England. But there's no fun or larger culture in that. If you aren't an OG in your 50s, 60s, or 70s such as myself, doesn't mean you aren't goth. Whether you call yourself pastel goth, steam goth, glitter goth, whatever. I'm not gonna tell anyone no. I have a general disdain for "authority" due to my political leanings. As Rick Miller sang you gotta raise your freak flag high. Gate keeping is only the death of things.
