IT dingus from Germany who'll move to Australia soon™

  • The mainboard came from a complete system that was in not so good condition, but it came with the fitting heatsink. I bought the 9 cell battery as new old stock on ebay a year or so ago.

  • The temps are not too bad, about 40-50 Celsius idle and 80-ish under load. I used Thermal Grizzly Duronaut paste that I had left over from a PC build I did for a mate.

I'm kinda disappointed by the K2100M to be honest, it's not that much better than my original T540p's GT730M IMO.

  • I looked it up I guess

  • Yes, it did. Even the heatsink.

  • I'm convinced that every time he smiles it's just a face spasm from a stroke he's having.

  • Sorry, for the late reply I wanted to double check if I was correct. Yes, Voyager shows your saved comments and posts under the "Saved" category on your profile page

  • I used to use Boost for Reddit back then and switched over to Boost for Lemmy initially. Nowadays I use Voyager as the UI is better IMO.

  • I barely know who Ariana Grande is and know none of her songs by name. I'm just not interested in that kind of music and wouldn't it be for the radio that's always on in my office I don't think I'd even know The Weeknd, although I guess his songs are prolific enough that most people have at least heard one by now.

  • I never had any issues with Canon or Brother printers at work, but HP printer are almost always unnecessarily complicated and frustrating all the way through, starting at the initial setup.

  • In terms of living with my mum? She doesn't mind; I do pay her a bit every month to compensate as well.

In terms of moving? My dad doesn't care, I have a feeling that he wouldn't even come to visit me. My mum obviously both doesn't really want me to go and wants me to live my own life so she's ultimately fine with it.

Honestly, living with my mum hasn't been easy for the last year. There's just so much petty drama happening between her, my sister and anyone who they think wrongs them (I won't go into detail but it's bad); so it'll be great to get away from that.

That's far faaar from my only reason to move to Australia, mind you.

  • I misread that as HB1s for a brief moment.

  • Quit your job. Finding a new one shouldn't be hard if you worked at Meta before.

  • Good on that JetBlue employee for showing a level of empathy. They were probably fired for it, but at least they went out with a bang.

  • I didn't get approved for anything yet but getting a 417 visa shouldn't be that hard AFAIK and from there you just have to get lucky and be sponsored for a 482 visa by an employer, after that you can get permanent residency on the 186 visa, after 2 years with the same employer. Aaand from there it's just another year until you can apply for citizenship.

Pretty straightforward, albeit a bit tedious...

  • Not moving out. In Germany there's still a bit of a stigma around living with your parents past your mid-20s but when I see what's currently going on with, you know, the housing market I'm glad I made that decision. I might have been a bit too lazy as well...

Plus I was able to save a bunch of money because of that, which is gonna come in handy for my move to Australia in September.

  • That's weird, it completely kills it for me... I'll have a look later to see if I ticked any other boxes.

  • It's not too dissimilar, though. Both this and many things billionaires typically invest in are ultimately pointless vanity projects.

  • You can turn glass off in macOS. On my MacBook running the latest 26.4.1 it's in the System Settings under Accessibility -> Display -> Reduce transparency.

Sadly, there are still a few apps that don't respect Accessibility settings, like Tidal, but it should apply to everything that's part of macOS.

  • I think that's something I would invest in if I was a billionaire
