  • I feel you. I'm so fucking sick of the scam based economy we (I'm assuming you're also in the US based on the vibe of your comment; apologies if I'm wrong) live in. I don't have a family, I can only imagine how much more difficult things are right now for people who do.

It makes me feel like the only path forward in terms of improving any facet of human life is to push the kleptocrats and oligarchs currently running things out of power. That's honestly one of my goals going to law school; I want to work in politics in some fashion and try to change that. I see some of the anti-oligarchy politicians that have had success or at least a lot of news coverage lately and that gives me some hope for the future. I absolutely hate the idea of being a politician, but I hate the idea of allowing the people currently in charge to remain in charge even more.

  • I feel this. 5 years ago I was a radar engineer making ~200k/yr. Today I'm unemployed and just submitted an application to a law school. I love technology and I'd love nothing more than to continue working in STEM fields, but I just cant justify it when the torment nexus is the only project those in charge are willing to fund. I cant bring myself to continue letting the rich harm people with technology I make, hopefully I can at least get involved with the law and try to create conditions where people in the future can work on tech without building the torment nexus

  • I'm currently developing the drtwo, drones are gonna be obsolete soon. Might want to start thinking about the future of modern warfare rather than being stuck in the past OLD MAN

  • "You can't just write people out of your life!"

    - people who I have, in fact, just written out of my life

  • We'll get there. I believe that, and if you're going to med school there's at least a part of you that also believes we're gonna keep going for a while. I think you should be really proud of yourself for surviving all the nonsense in the meme and still going to med school and trying to be part of the solution to the state of the world right now

  • The horrors persist, yet so do we. You're gonna be able to look at 2026 in a decade or so and be really proud of yourself for getting through it

  • Music @lemmy.world

Everclear - you make me feel like a whore

  • All models are wrong, but some are useful

  • Yes. So is every broadcast sattelite with relatively predictable transmissions/positioning. Most of them aren't set up to parse return signals into radar information, but anything that transmits and receives from ~2ghz to ~18ghz is physically capable of being used as a radar. If you consider the existence of passive radar, every active transmitter in that frequency range already is acting as part of a radar

  • I used to work in an office that had rules about how many of different types of personnel could be on the same airplane at the same time. With engineers on the team for instance, it was a massive pain scheduling flights anywhere because we were never allowed to have more than two of us on the same flight. We were allowed to have infinite LT's on any flight though, and somebody added an addendum to that chart indicating they were also allowed to run with scissors. I wouldn't admit to being a LT online either lol

  • More likely an accuracy thing. If you're aiming at anything more than a km or two away, minor vibrations in the base station can cause huge problems with accuracy, and you can't fix it with OIS type solutions because any "frame you discard" with those type of methods is lost time/power on the target

  • The FAA wants to recruit children as ATC because most people who have been alive for longer have seen how quickly the FAA will fuck them over and try to get them to work for free while striking is illegal. I wouldn't even consider working ATC before like $150k/yr based on all the "work without pay during the shutdown" fuckery I've seen from the FAA during my lifetime

  • Can anybody eli5? I like the art and the words seem deep on first blush but my brain is too smooth to understand what it means

  • Just wait until ai figures out that the conditions in the core of the sun are perfect for maintaining stable qubits...

(Not true, but this comic gave me a bit of inspiration to run a ttrpg based on that premise)

  • JOHN MADDEN JOHN MADDEN JOHN MADDEN JOHN MADDEN JOHN MADDEN

  • Office hours with the Survivor: can't tell if I'm learning or providing free therapy listening to this man talk about physics through analogies about his old government murdering all of his family and friends

  • That last one is easy. Given any x,

(x - 45)/2 = lost gains. If you still fit through doors, put that plate back on

The derivation is a bitch left as an exercise for the reader

  • Theres a huge difference between growing up and hearing about the heroic soldiers lionized for their "acts of bravery" and actually hearing and seeing a person's face while they die. Both change you, in pretty opposite ways.

  • Sometime in the 19th Century

I found the tombs of ancient Egyptians, what should I do with them?

Lol, I think I'll eat it as medicine instead

I dunno, just looks like more paint material lol

(I think thats all the text, but I absolutely could have missed something from the "white on sand" color scheme)

  • Armies march on their stomachs. This post seems too credible
